Quite a unique battle, most famed for the feat of Captain Guingret from Foy's command, crossing the river nakedness! For more, check out @Caseshotpublish book 📖

Napoleon used this as an excuse to flee/abandon his army from Russia. In typical Bonapartist style, those involved were executed.
#OnThisDay 23 October 1812 Malet Conspiracy. A skillful attempt at a coup, which used forged documents to claim Napoleon had died & establish a provisional government. The coup was led by General Malet (who had been under house arrest) & succeeded in making arrests...

4 years ago, a trip to see the Naval Ensign of the San Ildefonso on display, for Trafalgar Day at the National Maratime Museum. Removed when the ship was captured at Trafalgar, it was displayed at Nelson's funeral & still shows the scars of the battle.

“The Immortal Memory” : Nelson’s Coat from the Battle of Trafalgar On this day, 21 October 1805, Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson led the Royal Navy to what is probably its most famous victory, the Battle of Trafalgar. But it came at the highest personal cost. The coat pictured, now preserved at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, was worn by Nelson aboard HMS Victory during the battle. Look closely, and you’ll see a small, hole on the left shoulder. That mark was made by the musket ball fired by a French marine from the Redoutable. It struck Nelson around 1:15 p.m., passed through his shoulder and spine, and lodged in his lower back. He was carried below decks, where he would die a few hours later, learning before he died that his fleet had triumphed against the Franco‐Spanish fleet. Nelson’s death sent shockwaves across Britain. Trafalgar ensured British naval dominance for a century, but it also transformed Nelson from a national hero into an immortal legend. The phrase “The Immortal Memory” is still toasted by the Royal Navy. (📸Photo my own, Marcus Cribb)

Bigger birthday... Since we don't actually know how old Rusty is, we are calling today his "offical" birthday to help keep count. Meaning I've roughly had him just 36 months since his rescue and he is 4 (but probably 5 if we're being realistic) based off what a few vets have said. I can't believe that he's been with me for 2.5 years, cannot imagine a life with this big red adventure buddy, with his mix of sad face and huge smiles, a love of swimming and tennis balls, so we made sure he got both over the weekend. And some more recent adventures pictured.

Fought #OnThisDay 13-14 October 1810, the Battle of Sobral. Under Masséna, encountering the Lines of Torres Vedras, Junot's force probed forwards, they pushed back skirmish lines & seized an outpost, but were quickly ejected from the position by a British counterattack.

Fought #OnThisDay 27 Sept 1810 the Battle of Buçaco (Bussaco). Wellington's Anglo-Portuguese army held an indomitable position against Massena's larger army (including Ney). Through savage fighting, attacking columns were pushed back time & again.
