I wrote a brief piece for @NYAMHistory about Haitian medical journals, myths from the occupation, and Haiti's medical and intellectual tradition. Check it out:

#HaitianStudies folk, do any of you happen to have a pdf copy of John Houston Craige’s ‘Black Bagdad’?
“Using Presidential Drawdown Authority, Biden authorized […] up to $10 million worth of weapons, ammunition, bullet-proof vests and helmets” to help Haiti’s police fight gangs.

Given that so much of the current crisis stems from the unrestricted flow of US guns to Haiti - off of which US arms companies profited - more guns hardly seems like a solution.

Whether you think Haiti needs foreign security or not, conditioning participation in a new government on acceptance of the Kenya-led force negotiated by Henry is wrong.
It is clear the US backed Henry because they understood replacing him would call the deal into question.

It’s pretty astounding that a UN agency can claim credit for a “community revolution” against “waterborne diseases such as cholera” in Haiti, given that the UN is responsible for cholera being in Haiti in the first place.

With cholera’s resurgence and other medical issues getting worse, Haiti is in the midst of a public health crisis. It needs to be addressed, but I am uneasy with how such public health concerns are being invoked to support foreign intervention in the country.
It also has to be noted that cholera is not the only health crisis to spur calls for intervention in the past little while; COVID-19 was similarly used as a pretext for an intervention.
