A beautiful piece from my former colleagues. And a painful reminder that children and other human beings are suffering today, and yet still holding on to beauty.

"Why is it that so many of us persist in thinking that Autumn is a sad season? Nature has merely fallen asleep, and her dreams must be beautiful if we are to judge by her countenance." ~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge The River in Autumn (1912) 🎨 Gustave Loiseau

What a gorgeous thread
There is a concept known as “thin places”, where it is said that the veil between this world and the next is thin. You can sense the numinous around you, even if you cannot describe it. Where have you been that felt ‘thin’?

Surreal; This awesome graduation dance video got these female students into trouble. They now face prosecution for the “crime” of dancing during their graduation ceremony at Al-Zahra University in Bushehr, Iran. The university president threatened legal action against all these students. The individual who filmed this beautiful ceremony has been identified and his friends are concerned not only about her current situation but also her future. The Iranian regime is a gender apartheid regime, a reality reinforced time and again by the severe consequences faced by women for simple acts like dancing, highlighting the dire situation they endure under its rule. We’ve witnessed this scenario play out before. Nobody should be condemned, punished, or deprived of education simply for the ‘crime’ of dancing and experiencing happiness. We deserve to have a normal life.

A quick word for and about the haters (or pessimists) on both sides. As I've said here a couple of times, I am an Israeli Jew who believes that revenge is not a strategy, and that the only way forward is to work for freedom and dignity for all people. But in saying this, there are two groups of people who I can't ignore. First, those who believe that the massacres on Saturday were somehow "justified" by Israel's actions, and second, those who say that "you can never make peace with those people." So a word for and about both. First, nothing, absolutely nothing, can justify the deliberate murder of children, old people, and civilians in general. You can't blame a child, anywhere in the world, for where she was born, and targeting children is *always* wrong. Always. No exceptions. As for those who say, "how can you make peace with people who want to kill you?" a couple of things. First, you make peace with your enemies. That's why it's called making peace. Second, I have zero patience for the Islamophobes who put this on all Muslims, Arabs, or Palestinians, most of whom would never harm a child. And lastly, if Hamas is not interested, then let's talk to *anyone* who is. And no, we have not done that over the years. Again, neither the Jews nor the Palestinians are going anywhere. We have to live together. So let's find a way. Anything else will lead to total catastrophe.

George was always a delight to work with, in London and on the road. Kind, supportive and empathetic AND talented - a rare combo. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in Peace.

Ahem…with the great restraint that comes with maturity, I shall abjure from @‘ing anyone. But this: “This is exactly my experience. I was too young and then overnight I was too old.”
