Not sure which Jews the @chiefrabbi is talking about. For many British Jews who believe in ‘Never Again’ to finally see the government take action against the racist, brutal Israeli state is a source of long delayed joy. As Jews we welcome it & exhort the government to do more to stop the slaughter, including a full arms embargo & the diplomatic & economic isolation of Israel
This is truly a dark day for British Jews.
Today our Government has chosen to ignore the deep concerns expressed by so many of us.
The measures announced amount to little more than political flag bearing for mendacious anti-Israel rhetoric and those who harbour a dangerous obsession with the Jewish State. These measures will succeed only in bolstering the very extremism they seek to target.
On the eve of Rosh Hashanah and at a time when our community is more vulnerable than ever to the wave of extremism that has been building over recent years, these sanctions do nothing to advance the cause of peace. Nor do they make anyone safer – quite the contrary.
Gesture politics of this kind feeds into an increasingly hostile discourse about Israel, and the cumulative effect of such punitive policies is to further embolden those, at home and abroad, who use hatred as a weapon against Jews.

The BBC has avoided using the term "Israel lobby" over the past two years, new research by Declassified UK shows, even though:

- A quarter of all MPs are funded by the lobby

Yes, we should support the women of Iran who are deprived of universal human rights - however, your brand of selective feminism is not feminism. It’s cynical posturing to cover for the fact that you (and others) have abandoned the women and girls of Palestine/Gaza during an ongoing genocide; their universal human rights have been trampled on for decades. It’s a facet of privileged-white feminism that you choose to highlight the plight of women of colour when it won’t cost you a thing by way of book deals, adulation or status. In a particularly brutal and sadistic attack, a number of settlers slaughtered Palestinian lambs and gouged out the eyes of several of them while they were still alive.
