My Good Fire Journaling book is now available on Amazon. I focused on observing and journaling about burn objectives, prescriptions, ignition patterns, fire behavior, smoke and fire effects. Along with broader ecological observations. a.co/d/05jZITx6

My first try with paper engineering. I need work on matching the sizes of under paintings but really feel itβs is worth the storytelling result. Inspired by Heather Clementβs workshops. #goodfire

Coming soon! My new book focuses specifically on good fire observations and journaling techniques. Smaller in size and pages. Content not in Pyrosketchology.

Here are a few of the my travel and nature journal pages from our visit to southern Arizona and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument that I have not yet shared.

This didnβt come out the way Iβd planned, but did capture some of the birds Iβve seen on the ocotillo blossoms over the past couple of weeks. #traveljournal #naturejournal #desertblooms #sonorandesert
I have been exploring ways to create maps for my travel journal and love the look of fantasy/game play maps. I am still struggling with sketching the scale of terrain elements, but adding the site banners and shields shows terrain, vegetaion, etc. #traveljournal #naturejournal
I had forgotten to share my nature journal pages from February. Here are some of the critter observations.

I wrapped up my #traveljournal pages from our visit to Quitobaquito Springs, Arizona from a few days ago. What a magical place at sunset and so easy to see a few rare and endangered species. #naturejournal
We leave Bisbee Arizona today. The old town has historic buildings, numerous murals, art galleries, museums, and restaurants. I rarely sketch buildings and urban settings but wanted to capture some of the scenes in my travel journal.

I wanted to create a journal page that was artistic and symbolic of the work of volunteers and NGOs supporting the hurricane and tropical storm disaster
relief efforts. Donations and volunteers converge to near superpowers.

We have only been at our new campsite for a couple of days and had some really awesome observations. We even got some video of the bats feeding (iPhone and thermal camera).

I am experimenting with some new weather journaling approaches this month. The temperature wheel is the same but I am not combing RH or other data. The general weather (cloudiness, etc.) graph and winds are pretty easy to create and update.

Catching up on sharing some of my travel journal pages along the Oregon coast.

π Celebrating one week of Elementals in the world! Join the editors and the more than 90 contributors on an elemental journey, asking: What can the vital forces of Earth, Air, Water, and Fire teach us about being human in a more-than-human world? humansandnature.org/elementaβ¦ πΏπ₯οΈππ₯

ALT A hand holds a book set against a prairie and lake background that is out of focus. A half image reminiscent of a mandala or a kaleidoscope made up of colorful small images of ferns, crab claws, butterflies, sea stars, flowers, birds, corals, cacti, insects, water droplets, and other nature imagery is on the cover of the book set. Curved text overlaid on the image says, "Elementals is here!"
Exploring my @BirdWeatherHQ data along with daily weather and other information to build a sense of possible migrations into or out of the area. This month I will use the same table format, but with separate weather, moonlight, etc, from bird the detections.
Check out a blog story about my journaling with @BirdWeatherHQ data.
