If the next health minister in BC wants to try something different… Fully publicly funded. Reward efficiency and hard work. Fixed cost. Shorten waiting times. Benefits of capitalism without privatization. Take an operating room in a public hospital and create a partnership agreement with everyone who works in that room. The surgeon, the anesthesiologist, the nurses, the porter, the cleaning staff. Everyone is an equal partner. No one is more or less important to the team. All staff are paid their current contract bargained rates. Decide on the cost to get a procedure done, say a hip replacement in a hospital over and above the staff cost. Let’s say $500. For each procedure done that partnership gets $500. If they can be more efficient, stay later, help each other with tasks that don’t necessarily fall in their previous scope, be flexible with breaks, have some hussle… there is a “profit” at the end of the day based on their productivity. That gets split equally between the group. Introduce some of the benefits of pay for performance or capitalism while maintaining full public funding, no jumping the queue, no privatization, and giving people the opportunity to create efficiencies and heck be rewarded for that harder work instead of the current everyone gets the same no matter what. Reward efficiency instead of accepting mediocracy. I can see unions not happy with this but why not give some of your members the opportunity to choose to work in that room and maybe take home a bit more for the extra work they put in to the day. Pay for performance might just increase performance.

Also please spare a thought for those of us who are one bad policy decision away from going without food, shelter, clothing and health care. New govts making their mark often do so at the expense of our lives. We are scared tonight.

We have had access to multiple BIOMARKERS for diagnosing ME/CFS for many YEARS, yet the MEDICAL PROFESSION and GOVERNMENTS won't use them. The earliest BIOMARKERS (deformed MITOCHONDRIA) were found in the 1980s. This is one of the worst MEDICAL SCANDAL ever.

SSA-neg patients have worse QOL & function on average than SSA +. We have more SFN, Dysautonomia, cognitive dysfunction, and severe headaches. Also more G.I. and joint involvement. It is not a “mild“ version of the disease.

Welcome back to the Gord Campbell/Christie Clark days, only this time with a huge splash of Poilievre-Trump Maga, a large dash of racism, a heavy spoonful of privatization, & finish off with a bag full of corruption. Well done B.C.
BC, you’re going to regret this. The party is a literal mess, and you don’t even know who’ll lead it. Sometimes it’s better to stick with the devil you know. A little critical thinking wouldn’t hurt. 🤦‍♀️

Planting new trees doesn’t magically undo the destruction of an entire ecosystem. You cannot replace centuries of biodiversity with a few saplings. Companies that destroy our natural resources should face severe penalties, including permanent closure when warranted. We’ve reached a point where protecting the planet is treated as optional, and that needs to change.

These extraordinary mRNA cancer vaccine results didn’t happen overnight - they happened through DECADES of hard work and dedication. Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman helped make mRNA usable. Pieter Cullis et al helped develop the lipid particles that deliver it into cells. Thousands of scientists, clinicians, trial volunteers and funders have kept this work moving forward through setbacks, funding uncertainty and enormous challenges. That foundational work helped give us the mRNA platform for COVID vaccines. Now the results of this large phase 3 trial has confirmed that a personalized mRNA vaccine, added to immunotherapy, can help keep melanoma from returning. All while this technology has been demonized and scientists and public health workers have been vilified. Still - they keep working. For the ultimate benefit of society. We owe them our immense gratitude and support to keep going.

3️⃣ Could the blood vessels in your retina reveal your future balance problems? In a Canadian cohort of 12,929 adults, wider retinal venules were associated with higher odds of balance impairment three years later, while greater retinal arteriolar area was associated with lower odds. 👉 The retina offers a unique, non-invasive window into the body’s microvasculature—and may eventually help identify people at risk of functional decline. 3/3 aao.org/education/headline/w…

Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis knew the importance of basic infection control in the 1840s. Nearly 180 years later we still can't get it right, even in HEALTHCARE SETTINGS. Semmelweis got labeled crazy, institutionalized, and died there of sepsis from wounds he sustained in beatings.

An important story for cancer patients in BC. Underutilized CT scanners.
WATCH: “I think they’re killing people.” Same PET scanners used for private and public cancer scans yet @BCCancer only using a fraction of its available slots. Patient who paid got a refund after complaining to his NDP MLA. #bcpoli @GlobalBC @CUrquhartGlobal

SARSCoV2 can break your immune tolerance. Molecular mimicry + persistent antigen = autoimmunity risk. The virus itself does this! 🧵👇
#COVID19 and #Autoimmunity: When the Immune System’s Defence Turns Inward! ➡️ SARS-CoV-2 may disrupt immune regulation through molecular mimicry, persistent antigenic stimulation, bystander activation and epitope spreading. In susceptible individuals, these mechanisms—potentially compounded by oral–gut microbiome dysbiosis and altered amino-acid metabolism—may weaken immune tolerance and promote autoantibody formation and autoimmune manifestations. 1/

Flu A & Covid are circulating at high levels in British Columbia. Pls use caution. Wear a mask, especially in crowded, indoor spaces like grocery stores, churches, schools, hospitals, airplanes. Stay home when sick. Open doors and windows, use hepa filtration. Stop the spread!
