Encouraging to see this allocation from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund against a request of US$ 8.9M.
Meanwhile, @UNOCHA_ROSEA update #2 is out and we have a little more context on the conflict & displacement landscape in Ethiopia & Kenya.👇
3. In Oromia, @UNOCHA_ROSEA reports that "116 schools, including 84 in Moyale town, remained closed"-worsening historical school closures due to ongoing armed conflict and insecurity, particularly in East Wollega and Horo Guduru Wollega Zones - Protection Cluster/@RefugeesAfrica

Intercommunal violence in southern Ethiopia has forced nearly 50k people to flee into Kenya.
I’ve allocated $3M from UN’s Global Emergency Fund CERF to help partners urgently deliver life-saving food, water, shelter, and health.
Climatic shocks are main drivers-with erratic rainfall distribution, high land surface temps & delayed onset of the '26 OND rains cited
Intercommunal clashes & livestock raids, endemic livestock diseases & reduced humanitarian funding has exacerbated acute food insecurity (IPC3)
Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) anticipated to remain Critical (GAM WHZ 15–29.9 %) across the refugee settlements.
Emergency levels (IPC Phase 4) anticipated in #Dadaab due to flood-related disruptions to market access & humanitarian operations + waterborne vector borne diseases

#BREAKING: Somalia’s Supreme Court judges have ruled that constitutional changes adopted in 2026 did not extend the four-year mandates of the current federal institutions. They said Parliament’s and the government’s mandates expired on April 14, 2026, and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s on May 15. The ruling declares decisions taken under their constitutional and legal powers after those dates invalid, while allowing the government to handle routine affairs in a caretaker capacity.
The judges directed political stakeholders to agree on a consensus electoral framework within 30 days and hold elections within 90 days. They accepted former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed’s challenge to mandate extensions but rejected his challenge to the constitutional amendment procedure because he lacked legal standing to bring that part of the case.
