WASHINGTON, DC — Allison Herwitt, chief of staff to U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), released the following statement:
“Yesterday afternoon, Senator Murphy started experiencing numbness in his arm while at his son’s hockey game. He was taken to a local hospital, where it was discovered he had experienced a stroke. He was transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring and is responding well to treatment. The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery.”

Ireland's pre-famine population in 1845 was 8.5 million.
Today, it's 7.4 million.
For comparison, England's population was about 16 million in 1845.
Today it's 62 million.
