Italian prosecutors say Chinese police used a Milan business association to hunt a dissident already granted asylum. Li Ying (“Teacher Li”) has about 2 million followers on X. He rose during China’s 2022 White Paper protests by posting videos Beijing censored. Italy gave him asylum in November 2024. He says police visited his family in China and he has had to keep moving. On October 28, Milan prosecutors closed an investigation into 10 people, a step before any request for trial. Four are accused of criminal association for “repressive and coercive actions.” Prosecutors say Songqiang Wang, vice-president of the Fujian Chinese Association in Milan, acted “on behalf of the Chinese police,” contacted Chinese diplomats and United Front members, and helped coordinate the search for Li. Others allegedly recruited people in Italy to tail targets. Tools included a WeChat group active by March 2025 and surveillance videos of his home. All 10 face stalking accusations from 2023 to July 2025. The goal was to stop his criticism of Beijing. This follows Italy’s March 2026 expulsion of 8 Chinese nationals for related activity. No one is charged yet. China denies overseas policing. Asylum was supposed to end the pressure. Prosecutors say it didn’t.

A Korean band deleted Taiwan flags from its Instagram posts right after opening Weibo and Xiaohongshu accounts. Taiwanese fans noticed, and a Taiwanese organizer is now refunding tickets. The band is "can’t be blue", a five-member indie group with strong Taiwan ties: sold-out Taipei show in May, a Chinese cover of a Taiwanese band’s song, and an encore planned for November 15 at Zepp New Taipei. In late October, it joined Chinese platforms with full Chinese-language greeting videos, something it hadn’t done for Taiwan promotions. Fans then spotted Republic of China flag emojis removed from past Taiwan concert posts, stories, and promos. Some older posts still had them. Fans coined a sarcastic line: “can’t be blue, but can be red.” Many unfollowed, and some resold tickets. On October 29, the band’s agency, Cats Whiskers, apologized, saying it was unifying post layouts for “global promotion and operational planning” without considering the symbols’ meaning. It called it an internal oversight. Fans largely rejected the explanation as evasive. On October 30, Taiwan organizer NAC Entertainment offered refunds of 95% through November 5. Its head, Nuno, wrote that there is no clean separation of music from politics. The post drew widespread praise. The agency says it was an oversight. Fans see a market decision. Either way, a flag emoji just cost a band ticket sales in Taiwan.
