I think its bc we measure adulthood through independence while making independence increasingly unaffordable. Ppl end up interpreting their economic dependence as evidence of personal immaturity, then seeking the social leniency we afford children. It's a strange feedback loop.

I think capitalism/colonialism is based on fear, personally 🤷‍♀️ the fear of destitution and imprisonment. the other forces because they're based on bigotry scaffold that heirarchy because they tell us who deserves what. Thats why we can all see it but hesitate to dismantle it.
