Brilliant PI, excellent research, great opportunity!
Grateful for two R01s recently: to develop tools for recording and perturbing biochemical dynamics in the brain (with @jinzhanglab), and to uncover what these dynamics do in vivo. Recruiting postdocs, grad students, and engineers to join our exploration. sites.wustl.edu/yaochenlab/p…

Happy to share our new study comparing aggression level across 7 strains of mice, led by a talented undergraduate student, Xiuzhi Dai. Strain differences in aggression can be explained a lot by differences in the physiological properties of VMHvl cells. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

While Xiuzhi led the way, it was truly a team effort. Many lab members lent a hand during the revision process when Xiuzhi left the lab and started her graduate study at MIT. I am grateful for all the excellent and generous scientists I have the fortune to work with.

Happy to share our new review on Neural Mechanisms of Social Hierarchy across Species. We discussed how different individuals in various species, from fish to humans, achieve high social status and the neural circuits supporting each of those strategies. nature.com/articles/s41583-0…

What has changed in mama bear brain (well, actually mice) to make her risk her life to attack a potential threat and protect her young? Oxytocin is the key! Happy to share our new study led by two awesome postdocs: Takashi Yamaguchi and Rongzhen Yan. nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

Excited to share our new study arguing for the existence of parallel neural pathways mediated by LepR or non-LepR neurons that each is sufficient to drive obesity. The obesity driven by non-LepR neurons is relevant to DIO and can be a novel neural basis for leptin resistance.

As grants started getting cancelled a few months ago, I felt compelled to give a voice to scientists whose work has been targeted & share with the public what they do & why it is so vital. Happy to announce the start of my new podcast, Science Amplified open.spotify.com/episode/6aU…
