OHHHH TO BE A FLY ON THE WALL
this pilot is perfection
imo, while not as good as IWTV, the ugly betty pilot is really really solid. Great pilot. I recently watched the show for the first time so it came to mind

Sebastian Stan is almost unrecognizable as Mihai Gheorghiu in Christian Mungiu's (R.M.N., Graduation) pessimistic and tense #Fjord. Sebastian's Mihai is a powder keg, in contrast to Renate Reinsve's melancholy and disillusioned Lisbet Gheorghiu. Renate was in box office smash Backrooms and 2026's Oscar winning Sentimental Value. Her calmly passionate performance in Fjord is rich and riveting. Sebastian is a chameleon and has played everything from Donald Trump to a cannibal in 2022's Fresh. He's just as much an acrobatic thespian in this film as he is in his other roles.
Mungui's film conveys the hypocrisy of the Norwegian small town in a very natural, realistic way. Tensions build quickly in the film and are maintained throughout. Nature and people are the Gheorghiu's adversaries and the family has to rapidly adjust to detrimental challenges in their new home town. Will it change them or will they change it?
The 2 hours and 26 minutes goes by swiftly. This 2026 Palme d'Or winner and Neon release is an engrossing and solid watch. It's currently in select theaters.
lmaooo i kept looking and wondering where the damned interpreter was the whole time #fjord

FJORD dares to interrogate our propensity to fall into an extreme on either side and puts into question single-minded political structures by testing our tolerance. Uncomfortable by design and extremely timely, this is one of the best films of the year. Go see FJORD in theaters!

In our modern world, it seems that misunderstandings & contention are being pushed into the forefront of our lives & FJORD is an examination of that phenomenon. It is not a both-sides film. It's a picture that provides us with a moral dilemma & compels you to navigate through it.

Both Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve are in top form here, giving two of the best and most complicated performances of the year. The two of them, Stan in particular, add multi-layered nuances to their characters, which further fuels the film's themes of division and prejudice.
