A lot of people never realise there's good jetlag and bad jetlag, they say: East is a beast, west is best. Sydney to London, not terrible. Because I am UP READY TO GO at 3am. I'm 3 coffees deep and 2 cans of Neutonic in by the time the sun's up... I've got sweat patches from the amount of stimulants consumed, I'm in the gym 6:30am and by the time I leave I'm pretty much looking down on people who haven't trained by 8am as mere crackheads. This is good jetlag, I'm up before everyone else and quite frankly I'm a better human than anyone who slept in later than me. "oh you woke up at 7:30, GOOD AFTERNOON MATE." There's a feeling of being sanctimonious in the air. (someone who acts as if they are morally superior, more pious, or holier than other people, usually in a hypocritical or insincere way) I had a good few weeks, I was smashing through my new book. First one awake most days, life was good then. I changed time zones and well, now I have the bad jetlag. I woke up today at 3:45pm. I have 96 unread emails, I am now the crackhead. I just smashed 2 cans of Neutonic and my parents are already talking about getting the BBQ going. Where did the day go? Am I wasting my life? Is this rock bottom? I may as well spark up a cigarette and get the spoon out with some foil. This my friends, is bag jetlag. I've come to realise a few things about my mental health and wellbeing. If I don't train today, I'm fine. If I am hungover today, I'm fine. If I eat crap today, I'm fine. Know when I am not fine? When I don't get what's needed to get done for the day. I have come to realise there are many things that balance how I feel. Getting what needs to be done, done. That's my mission to recouping the day. I'm not entirely sure I will get everything done today, but I know that having a cold can of Neutonic next to me that I'm better prepared than anything else on the market. I can't fix my timezone, I can just be well armed to get sh*t done. Try or Order some Neutonic here today neutonic.com/ If you don't love it, I'll pay for the order. Cheers James

Yesterday I had to speak out against some bonkers stuff online. Dr Rhonda Patrick, a scientist and health educator made a video with another popular person named Mel Robbins. Firstly, no offence to Mel, but I can't stand her. When I wrote my book 'How to be confident' I read the top 6 selling books on confidence before hand and hers was the most painful of all of them. Imagine your secret sauce for confidence was to just count down from 5..4..3..2..1 then do the thing. I don't mind that theory, but having it spread over 6 hours on audiobook was the type of thing I could imagine they use to torture people in the Gulag. Now, Rhonda said if you add a banana to a smoothie with blueberries in it "you don't get as many polyphenols." Then Mel pipes up "so the banana is killing the benefit?" Rhonda smiles and nods. I was like hold on, this is an eating disorder if I have ever seen one. One of which I worry about is Orthorexia Nervosa, perhaps best summarised as an obsession with healthy eating with associated restrictive behaviors. The attempt to attain optimum health through attention to diet may lead to malnourishment, loss of relationships, and poor quality of life. Not every metric of health should be measured like this. Case in point: alcohol is a poison, there are 0 scenarios where it's ever 'healthy'. But sharing a bottle of wine with a friend going through divorce or having 5 beers with your mate who's been really silent in the group chat the past 6 months is probably a NET win in, well, you know? Life? In my comments there were about 1 in 100 comments that began with "but..." For you instagram scientists, in this instance we're looking at a single type of flavanol (which is an antioxidant compound). Bananas have inherent antioxidant effects on their own. (Bukola C Adedayo et al. 2016) With brain health, there's evidence showing bananas protect against neurodegenerative diseases. (Barnabas Oluwatomide et al. 2022) Bananas are also rich in magnesium and potassium (of which most people are deficient). Even if they do lower flavanol levels when ingested with blueberries, that does not 'cancel them out'. You'd still get Vit C, Vit K, fibre, manganese, and anthocyanin from blueberries. But now you're gonna say "BuT ShE SaId To AdD AvOcADo InsTeAd." Well, they also have polyphenol oxidase (the problematic thing) and they have way more calories. This entire debate should have been: if you don't like banana, avocado is fine. God Bless @thealanaragon for his help here. Some studies say that bananas can't even do the bad thing she claimed. (Cara R Welch et al. 2008) There are also studies showing THAT THE COMBINATION of blueberries and bananas can be BENEFICIAL for metabolic stress, oxidative stress and inflammation. (David C Nieman et al. 2020) I went straight to Alan's page when I saw this kick off online as I knew he'd have a sound opinion on it. Make sure you follow him. Here's the point. Alan, nor myself, nor anyone with any common sense would TELL YOU THAT YOU SHOULD BE MIXING BLUEBERRIES AND BANANAS FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE off a bit of data. So with the exact same thinking, no one should be telling you not to. I am all for optimisation. Make the most of your situation, that's why we made Neutonic. Instead of a monster, have a Neutonic. Instead of a zyn, have a focus pouch. Take our creatine because it's convenient and tastes nice. But at the same time... If you don't have your 5 bits of fruit or veg today, I don't care. If you wanna skip the gym and not train all week, do what feels right. If sometimes a bit of bad = a net good, then who the f*ck is in a position to tell you otherwise? Live your f*cking life, you won't get another one. Put the banana up your ass for all I care. πŸ˜… James p.s if you think Neutonic may seem like too much optimisation for you... ...well don't f*cking buy it then 🀣 neutonic.com Use my coaching app: jamessmithacademy.com

A business owner wants to buy some sunglasses for Β£120… Step 1. Make a Β£1,320 sale Step 2. Pay the Β£1,056 of operating costs Step 3. You have Β£264 of pre-tax profit (20% margin) Step 4. Pay Β£66 corporation tax Step 5. Pay the Β£198 dividend Step 6. Now pay Β£78 dividend tax Step 7. Β£120 in your bank account to buy sunglasses of which Β£20 is VAT and Β£100 is the actual goods So for a business owner with 20% margins to buy Β£100 of goods they had to deliver Β£1320 of value and pay Β£164 of tax. … And then they call you greedy for not wanting to be taxed more.

I don't call out BS like I used to, there's not as much as there was back in peak 2019. However I saw an advert earlier about why people should take electrolytes when flying on a plane. I got triggered 🀣 unlike me. Here's the 60 second ted talk. When you fly, the airplane's cabin is less humid than usual, about 3-20% more. So you lose water faster, even sat down doing nothing. So you lose water, not sodium. But companies like to conflate sodium levels, with hydration levels. So people genuinely think they need to pack a 500mg sodium packet to fly. But here's the issue: at altitude, with noise from the cabin, it's well documented that people taste less sweet and salty components of a meal, this is the reason why airplane food is some of the saltiest in the world. So if you really wanted to battle plane dehydration, you need one thing. WATER. And you actually need to consume MORE than usual not just because of the humidity, but the saltiness of any food you consume. The idea of packing a sachet of sodium in a bid to remain hydrated is... well, it's unscientific. When I realised that Linda, 42 from Norwich had hired a PT to send her to a gym on a Tuesday evening to do a "shoulder's day" I thought we had hit peak bad advice. As she slurped on her BCAA's, I thought it couldn't get worse. To train a very small group of muscles on the shoulder for an hour, I thought this was as bad as it got. But no, people are chugging salt on planes because they lose a fraction more water than usual. Here's your list of things to make your life better - creatine, all of you - follow a workout, even if chat gpt - eye masks, great for sleep - caffeine 30-60 mins pre workout - if you're dehydrated, drink more water James 'anti bs' Smith P.s there are some caveats, drinking electrolytes CAN cause people to drink more water due to the taste. But so can adding cordial. Having too much sodium intra-workout can cause a 'post exercise' water retention to occur, which can help the recovery process. AND TO TOP IT OFF, I don't think people purporting these claims and muddying the water between hydrated (enough water or not) and sodium levels (enough sodium or not) are BAD PEOPLE. They're just idiots who don't really know what they're on about.

Everyone is piling on to @garyseconomics - his wealth tax documentary has bombed. Even the Guardian has given it a 2-star review and watched in horror as experts and onlookers alike call his ideas a car wreck. It’s disappointing that he stuck to the same scripted lines that he said to me over a year ago. I raised the core issues with him back then and he did nothing to evolve his thinking. Now with all of that said, I want to urge that we don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Wealth Taxes won’t work but that doesn’t mean we can’t look for ways to improve things for people who are struggling. Gary’s popularity stems from a real issue. Millions of people see no way of keeping up with the costs of living. For millions of people in the UK their living standards are getting worse year on year and it needs to be addressed. Here’s my thinking: THE CAUSE: - technology is devaluing jobs by making them easy to automate, outsource or simplify. - we’ve had an un-targeted immigration policy that has flooded the UK labour market with millions of additional low skilled workers who compete with local entry-level workers. - we have a UK government that has exploded debt and spending. Government spending that doesn’t result in productivity gains creates inflation. - We have massive global businesses who do business in the UK but don’t contribute anything in tax revenue. They put local retailers, code shops and publishers out of business and move their profits to low tax zones. SOLUTIONS TO EXPLORE: - Special economic zones that offer lower taxes for small businesses that set up in parts of the country that need economic activity. - Broadcast licenses for social media giants. - IP licensing taxes for companies that take the piss with profit shifting. - Lower taxes for startups. Reinstate the Entrepreneurs Relief. Expand SEIS/EIS. - Allow home based businesses to claim childcare, cleaners, company car etc so they can run a better business. - Allow tax deductions for home renovations (other countries have seen massive stimulus from this). - Set up a British Sovereign wealth fund using oil and gas reserves. - Reduce regulations and get builders building homes. - Full support for the British farmers who create jobs and provide domestic food security. - Entrepreneurial apprenticeships. - Financial literacy and business skills taught in schools. What would you add to the list?

Today I had my first game of Pickleball and I won't lie, I wasn't really looking forward to it that much. I think because I don't particularly like pickles. Also I don't think food names belong in sport, a vinegar soaked cucumber and a racket sport it just doesn't make logical sense. Not only that, in British English the last thing you want to be is in a pickle. "The phraseΒ "in a pickle"Β is an idiom that meansΒ you are in a difficult, troublesome, or awkward situation. It often suggests that you are stuck or experiencing mild to moderate confusion, and you might need to figure out a clever way to get yourself out of it." So there was all of this in my mind on my way to play. I get passed the racket which was pathetic, the ball seemed cheap and stupid. I walk to the court that is small, uninspiring and it looks rather mid. It felt like I was about to to embark on a version of table tennis for people who had actually had sex before. (that was me accusing table tennis players of being virgins for those of you from essex.) How was it? FANTASTIC, GIVE ME 14 OF THEM RIGHT NOW. It was like tennis, but less mistakes, easier to adopt, less demanding and better for someone like me rather competitive. I played with 3 Australian lads and I don't think they've ever heard a yellow plastic ball (or any item) called YOUU FARRKINNN SLAAAAAAAAAG so much in their lives. In Australia they don't really understand the insults slag, nonce or bell end. The pickle ball did understand by the end of the round. I'll stand here a proud man and say pickleball wasn't good, it was excellent, better than I could have ever imagined. Now I won't lie, cracking a can of Neutonic got me in the zone to learn the rules and go from noob to expert in 60 minutes. But I actually think a lot of you reading this could be looking at Neutonic like I was looking at pickleball, all I had to do was try, then I realised it was a better experience than Icould have ever expected. Remember, I back every order with a 100% money back guarantee. So head to neutonic.com/ today, or visit your nearest place stocking neutonic by clicking here neutonic.com/pages/store-loc…. Because their old business went under πŸ˜…
GET THE FACTS: New ASIC numbers show there are more than 26.7k new business registrations on average every month under Labor, much higher than under our predecessors, and insolvencies are almost half what they were in the Howard Government.

I know a lot of people are wondering why I've not piled on to the Steven Bartlett wine drinking debacle and gotten myself the most viral post of the month. Quite strangely I don't think people are actually that outraged at the comment on the wine alone, I think this is a build up of a lot of frustrations, these are my thoughts. Steven has been a bit of a national treasure to the UK entrepreneur scene. I've spoken out a few times about how what used to be a podcast between the world's most interesting talent soon became a media company machine for views. Guests one week would completely conflict with guests on the next week. it was clear pseudoscientists and fear mongering was welcome as long as it grew the media empire (which it's done incredibly well). Each guest now is prepped with every question, every talking point and the direction of each part of the talk. Every viral moment is planned well before they sit down. They have every title, every reel planned. It's a dance between 2 people to create viral content, not a conversation. The reason people's answers sound so impressive is that they had 3 weeks to curate the answers. I don't think Steven is a bad person, I actually think if I was in his shoes I would probably get caught up into this as well. When you have millions of dollars a year in staff, payroll, overheads. You sometimes do need to treat a business like a business. But the audience are smart enough to realise, they're the product. They got pushed Huel and Steven would have on founders of companies he'd invested into. Joe Rogan has the number one podcast in the world. He doesn't read the guest's books, he doesn't have a team read it and carefully pick questions. Joe doesn't have every reel, thumbnail and title selected. Joe just has conversations with people he finds interesting, because of that, the audience are fiercely loyal and don't feel like they're a pawn being brainwashed with unscientific narratives and fear mongering to buy certain products Steven has invested in to. I think the wine comment was more of the straw that broke the camel's back. A lot of media personalities online, you don't actually know them. You just see the facade of who they choose to let you see. You don't love Chris Hemsworth, you love Thor. But you can conflate the two, in real life he could be a prick. (He isn't btw, he's a dream of a bloke, his brothers too.) The UK's golden boy had a freudian slip. (an unintentional error in speech, memory, or physical action that is believed to reveal an unconscious desire, thought, or suppressed feeling) I guarantee most of the people outraged are former fans. Most of my "haters" are people who used to send me really nice DM's in 2019. People will have an idea of who they think you are from the information you portray to them. Sometimes they're wrong. "never meet your heroes" Be yourself, even if it means being less successful, or you'll get found out eventually.

I've seen this posted a few times and want to make some things clear, and remember I am "the calorie deficit" guy. If you had a loved one in your family, t2 diabetes risk, CVD risk, if they didn't lose weight fast they were a walking time bomb to premature death. Which one of these queues would you WANT them to join? Because the queue on the right works, it works well, in my opinion it's one of the best advancements in medicine since antibiotics. Ozempic has been studied for well over a decade, we know the safety data pretty well, there can be sides and complications. But being 100lbs overweight has a lot of side effects too. I wish it would occur to Eddie that MILLIONS of people need to queue on the right, to then queue on the left. It's so clear who's tried a GLP1 and who hasn't, because healthy foods, single ingredient foods, clean foods are much MORE APPEALING when you take a GLP1. Eddie, who was willing to blast gear for years to get a trophy in a sport well known for premature death from heart failure won't understand what living with insanely high appetite is like. The guy eats 1 meal a day and happily starved himself in prep. Eddie also who owns a gym, should realise he could have potentially hundreds more members from that queue on the right as they want to preserve muscle and keep their bone density as they lose weight. To ridicule people who would be perfect for his gym is just moronic and sanctimonious. I'm a fan of GLP1s and I hope you're reading this Eddie. Let's say someone signs up at your gym today. If they've been taking Mounjaro for 6 months. They're now at their most motivated, at their fittest, healthiest and lightest weight. If they come in at their most obese, least healthy and least motivated. Who do you think is more likely to make exercise and eating well a life long sustained habit? There are millions of fellow humans who just want a good quality of life. This meme to ridicule them for wanting to sort their life out with medication they can qualify for to objectively make them healthier just goes to show how much IQ you lost from abusing steroids. Hippocrite. Sh*t take. Out of touch. Your last video calls whey protein shit. Which is filtered milk, that comes from a cow. Which is all you eat? I don't get it.

There are a lot of businesses out there that will convince you that all you need to learn is 'paid ads' and that's how you acquire new business. As someone who spends nearly a million dollars a year on ads, I just wanted to point out one thing, those people are full of sh*t. πŸ˜… People think they can bypass the stage of mastering and learning organic content and that's just f*cking stupid. Every organic post that bombs, it's free. Every organic post that performs well, is also free. So you get unlimited spins on a roulette table that gives you feedback of what works and what doesn't. Why would you not make a few thousand spins before doubling down on a type of creative you think is going to work is beyond me. Secondly, getting a good ROAS (return on ad spend) is difficult. A lot of brands out there in CPG and other avenues need a customer to stay with them OVER A YEAR to make the money back. Why? Because the cost of acquiring them (CAC) is such a large amount. What's equally f*ckign mad is that a personal trainer who coaches people in person will run NO ADS. When setting some awareness ads in a local 5km would be super cost efficient. Why? Because an in person coach probably has a ACV (average customer value) well into the hundreds, sometimes thousands. Think about it, Β£40 a session, buys a 10x block. Does 3x blocks before moving on. That's Β£1200 pounds. But the online coach, selling memberships to his white label app for Β£29.99 is just not going to be able to make that work online, the margins are too small. The CAC would be so much higher than the ACV. Everyone froths at the idea of getting paid ads to work, their eyes light up like it's some new meta, some new advantage, some way to get ahead. But the meta has been in front of you, for a decade, saying the same thing with a massive line of proof and results turning up year after year. Getting really f*cking good at making content can give you the best return on investment you could ever imagine. Why do you think paying to be in front of someone would convert better than people actively choosing to watch your content? Becoming a master of content is the cake, ads are the icing. Stop shopping for icing unless you already have the cake nailed. James

Almost all of the world's wealthiest people are congregated in a very small place right now,Β and it's super weird. It's the Monaco F1. The reason I say it's weird is this: The richest 0.00001% of people all ship down their hypercars, yachts, helicopters to the most prestigious event in the world. So what's weird about that? Well... I have a sneaky suspicion they all leave feeling Monaco like they're not rich enough, like they need to make more money. You can have a massive yacht, but the moment you see a bigger one.Β It's game over. Being exposed to that much wealth in one small place, it's super weird and the human brain can't deal with it properly. Our brain tries to determine what's "normal" by the information given to it. This screwed up a lot of people in the fitness industry (myself included). As a kid, I watched WWE, all my favourite athletes on steroids. πŸ˜… I then arrive to the fitness industry and my idea of "normal" got screwed up by much of the same. What I thought was normal was why I took steroids. I took anabolic steroids just to look like a "normal" PT πŸ˜… Before the internet, the chances of someone having elite genetics in your town or neighbourhood was slim. So a bit like the RICHEST 0.00001% hanging out with each other and absurdly feeling like they're not rich enough. The internet meant we all got access to the 0.00001% of TOP PHYSIQUES AND ELITE GENETICS and it started to make us feel inadequate with ourselves,Β and this happened FAST. Introducing physique inflation. Hugh Jackman went from 30 to 55, yet the world's standards of what he should look like changed a hell of a lot. Worse yet, in our memories, he was equally jacked in both films. What happened, what screwed us up? Access to more information than ever. Our idea of normal.Β has never been less normal. We also have a tendency to compare ourselves to other people, but almost always to those doing better than us. The quote goes "comparison is the thief of joy." But the point of my email is this,Β you have enough competition with yourself. You want to look better naked?Β Compare to how you looked last month naked. You want to make more money?Β Make more money this year than last year. You want to be successful in anything?Β Try to beat what you did before. There will be thousands of multi-millionaires leaving Monaco feeling broke today. Yet almost all of them are probably doing the best they've ever done in their own personal journey in life. Perception is powerful, don't make your mission more difficult than it needs to be. James P.s buy my sh*t πŸ˜…πŸ‘‡πŸΌ Do more with Neutonic neutonic.com/ Use my coaching app free: jamessmithacademy.com Take your business online: jamessmith.business/content-…
