There’s an epidemic on Twitter (never not calling it that) when it comes to films. I think the Odyssey backlash happened because one account posted something negative that got big impressions, and then others piled on, being negative for clicks, despite having no real interest in the film. I also doubt most of the people complaining about their “beloved” 2,800-year-old Greek epic poem have even read it. I imagine many, right up until they started complaining, thought Homer was just Bart’s dad. Once that ball started rolling, it was impossible to stop. It had nothing to do with the film; as you’ll remember, most of the negativity happened before it was even released. And while the success of The Odyssey bloodied a few noses on here, I doubt it will stop “Negativity For Clicks,” because bandwagon culture is the fuel of social media.
