realizing someone was just an emotional parasite all along is heavy, they never actually cared about you they were just looking for a battery to live off of until it needed a charge they couldn't give back

Whenever someone gives you their opinion, listen. But before you adopt it, stop and look at who gave it to you. You never want to adopt the opinions of someone you don’t want to become. Their opinions helped shape the person they are today.

If your partner is neurodivergent and she stops dead in the parking lot to point at the sunset, learn the word glimmer. Her nervous system is on alert most of the day. A glimmer is a tiny moment that tells it, for a second, that it's safe. She grabs every one she can find. You think she's slowing you down. Don't keep walking and say "Come on, babe." Stop. Stand behind her. Look where she's pointing. "Show me." She's been told to grow up her whole life by people who never stopped to look.

I don’t hate you. I pity you. Imagine spending your entire life convinced everyone else is the problem. Rewriting every story, avoiding every ounce of accountability. Demanding loyalty while giving none. No one could ever punish you more than the life you will spend trying to escape yourself.

when someone who dislikes you fabricates a narrative, their goal isn't to prove the claim. it's to erode your confidence until you start acting like the target they described.

Narcissistic people LOVEEEEE calling their victims crazy or trying to diagnose them with something so they can avoid taking accountability for the chaos THEY CAUSED and make the victim feel like they’re the one who constantly needs help. They push you until you react, then point at your reaction and say, “See! You’re the unhinged one.” And just like that, the cycle starts all over again. 🤢

You can tell someone’s level of intelligence by how intensely calm, unbothered, and unavailable they stay in chaos.

I love that scene in Good Will Hunting where Ben Affleck is talking to Matt Damon's titular character Will Hunting and he's like “you've got a gift man and you've gotta get outta this town and make something of yourself” and the gift in question is being really good at math and the town he needs to get out of is Boston, Massachusetts.

I think far too many parents (99.999% of the time, moms) are obsessed with made up rules. I once had a serious argument with my wife about leaving the fair early. She wanted them in bed by 7:30, and I was very fiercely against it. We left anyway.
One more thing about the parents not making time for their childless friends: My experience has been the childless are just totally oblivious to the importance of "the schedule". There's nothing more important than "the schedule."
