NEWS: Travis Kalanick (@travisk) says, we should all thank @elonmusk for buying Twitter.
The Uber founder, back in public after years out of the spotlight, credited new media and Elon Musk for why he is speaking again.
In a recent interview he said: "Elon buying Twitter is the beginning of us being able to speak our minds and for disagreeing to not be illegal. That's a big deal. We should all thank Elon for that."
Kalanick said old media was overwhelmingly negative and that podcasts now let people "say what you need to say" without going through legacy outlets.

NEWS: Ron Baron says no one will ever match Tesla on robots
The Baron Capital founder said Optimus may be a bigger advantage for Tesla than anything it has done, with Musk aiming far past early targets.
"He's not talking about 10 million. He's talking about 100 million and then he's talking about a billion," Baron said of Musk's robot plans.

NEWS: Ron Baron says Elon Musk should call himself the best builder on the planet
The Baron Capital founder said Musk builds data centers in a fraction of the time and cost of rivals, pointing to one finished in 122 days while competitors take two to three years and spend 40 to 50 billion dollars.
Everything SpaceX does is fixed price, Baron said, at better quality and delivered on time.

NEWS: Elon Musk rejects the far right label in an exchange with The Economist
"I support the normal people. What you call the far right, falsely."
He challenged the interviewer to say what is extreme about 3 positions.
"Here are the principles and tell me which of these sound terrible. That we should have secure borders, that we should have safe cities, that we should have sensible spending. Which of those three are far right fringe?"
Elon then turned on the framing itself.
"I would like to just admonish you and the media for the absurd characterization of the far right. It is false and misleading and nonsense."
He asked that the exchange survive the edit. "Please keep this part in."
Elon said the same speeches get judged by who delivered them, describing a habit of reading Obama and Clinton speeches to people and telling them Trump said it. He named Rupert Lowe as an example of who he means by normal people.

NEWS: SpaceX Starlink's direct to phone service in Japan passed 5 million users, NTT Docomo says.
The docomo Starlink Direct service launched on April 27.
It reached 5 million connected users about two months later, on July 9.
The service connects smartphones straight to Starlink satellites, with no ground towers.
It works on 89 compatible phone models already in circulation.
It covers all of Japan and up to 12 nautical miles offshore.
Users can send texts, share location and use some data apps in dead zones.
Docomo is Japan's largest carrier, with about 92 million subscribers.

NEWS: A new EU safety mandate is good news for Tesla. All new cars and vans must add five safety features from July 7, the European Commission says.
The rules cover every newly registered vehicle. Cars already on the road are not affected.
Five new systems and tests are now required.
- Advanced emergency braking that detects pedestrians and cyclists
- Advanced driver distraction warning
- Better forward vision
- New tests for worn tyres
- A larger safety glass area to protect pedestrians
The requirements fall under the EU General Safety Regulation.
Tesla already ships camera based driver monitoring and pedestrian detecting emergency braking as standard.
The wider regulation is expected to save over 25,000 lives by 2038, EU estimates show.
Replying to @EU_Commission
🔸Advanced emergency brake detecting pedestrians and cyclists
🔹Advanced driver distraction warning system
🔸Better forward vision
🔹New tests for worn tyres
🔸Expanded safety glass area designed to protect pedestrians during accidents

NEWS: China is losing the race to claim prime orbital slots to Starlink, the head of China's main satellite system says.
Hu Haiying runs the Qianfan satellite system, China's answer to Starlink.
He told state media space orbits and frequencies are "non-renewable" and going fast.
Starlink has over 12,400 satellites in orbit. China's Qianfan has 200.
Starlink controls more than 60% of all active satellites worldwide.
It also controls more than 70% of the prime orbits for direct to cell service.
China has approval to launch 200,000 satellites but has not built them yet.
The first orbital slot to file with the ITU keeps the rights.

NEWS: A CNN panelist from Brownsville tore into Elon Musk for trashing her local beaches, right as the chyron behind her called him the world's first trillionaire.
To be clear, SpaceX runs Starbase under federal and state environmental oversight and coordinates with the wildlife agencies on the refuge around it.
The beach is only closed for launches and tests. It reopens the moment the operation ends. It is accessible by public.
Also, here is what SpaceX did.
~ Reached orbit as the first privately built liquid-fuel rocket, back in 2008
~ Built and landed the first orbital rocket booster, reflew it and made reusable rockets normal
~ First private company to send a spacecraft to the space station
~ First private company to fly humans to orbit, ending US reliance on Russian rockets in 2020
~ Brought home the two astronauts Boeing's Starliner left stranded in space
~ Flew the first commercial spacewalk
~ Caught a returning Super Heavy booster out of the sky with the launch tower
~ Built Starship, the largest and most powerful rocket ever flown
~ Was picked by NASA to land its astronauts back on the Moon
~ Put up the largest satellite network in history and beamed internet to millions, including disaster zones
~ Launches more often and lifts more to orbit than the rest of the world combined
She is upset about the beach, but SpaceX is serving humanity and will make humans a multi-planetary species.
To get something you want, you have to let go of something you want.

NEWS: Joe Lonsdale on whether Elon Musk wins the AI race. "It's crazy to think he's not going to win."
The 8VC founding partner and Palantir co-founder was asked directly about Steve Eisman's bear case on CNBC.
His answer. Trillions are pouring into AI infrastructure, about $5 trillion over the next five years, and Elon is the best hardware builder in the world at exactly the moment that matters.
On the compute SpaceX already rents out, Lonsdale says the payback is well under a year on the roughly $26 billion it is bringing in.
And the regulation fight only helps him. Every rule that blocks data centers on the ground pushes the work to space, where Lonsdale says Elon has already shown how it scales.

NEWS: Fidelity is opening the SpaceX IPO to any customer with at least $2,000 in a retail brokerage account, down from as much as $500,000 for previous offerings.
The reason, per Fidelity's own FAQ, is that SpaceX reserved up to 30% of the offering for retail investors. Typical IPOs set aside just 5% to 10%.
Customers can request anywhere from 1 share to 1 million shares. If demand outruns supply, Fidelity will run a lottery to spread allocations as fairly as possible.
One warning for flippers. Selling allocated shares within 15 days of trading brings a 6 month ban from future IPOs at Fidelity. A second flip brings 1 year. A third is permanent.

NEWS: ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet singles out Starlink as one of the most fascinating chip demand drivers he sees in the market today.
"We talk a lot about chips, humanoids and self-driving cars. But all those products have to be connected to data," Fouquet told Reuters.
Starlink's satellite constellation requires chips at scale. As the network grows toward tens of thousands of satellites, it represents a significant and recurring source of semiconductor demand that most analysts overlook.
