FDA’s new program to assess the safety of chemicals already on the market is a step forward, but it leaves vital questions unanswered and fails to adequately address cancer-causing chemicals and other risks. Full statement from Dr. Maria Doa: bit.ly/4nL4een

ALT "All Americans deserve to know their food is safe. This new program is an important step forward, incorporating changes that we have been urging for years. At the same time, the program leaves several questions unanswered that are critical to delivering safer food. It fails to fully ban cancer-linked chemicals and address cumulative effects, leaving pathways open for harmful substances to still end up in Americans’ food.” Maria Doa, PhD. Senior Director, Chemicals Policy, Environmental Defense Fund

“There’s nothing gold-standard about tearing down the science-based protections that help keep our drinking water safe. #PFAS are highly toxic, even at very low levels,” said Maria Doa of @EnvDefenseFund.

EDF was at the U.S. court of appeals last week with @earthjustice urging the FDA to stop allowing toxic #phthalates in our food. These chemicals are linked to infertility, preterm birth & harms to kids’ development. The evidence has been there for years. It's time for FDA to act!

Replying to @EPA
@EPA regulations are the most beneficial of any federal agency.
OMB shows that annual benefits to the American public ranged from $194 billion to $687 billion per year; far greater than the costs.
so we need EPA to do more, not less on toxic chemicals wich are underregulated
“While industry says ‘faster, faster’ and uses buzz words like ‘progress & innovation, it is essential that policymakers understand the repercussions of unleashing new toxic chemicals on the population.” @TraceyJWoodruff @thenewledenews thenewlede.org/2025/10/tsca-…
