Sad, sad story. No, Ed Dawson wasn't mentioned among the best WPIAL coaches. But it's not easy at a small place like Cornell. What he did for Cornell football and Cornell kids can't be overstated. WPIAL football lost a good man.

Kemon Spell sighting tonight. Played first time in weeks. Carried six times. Three TDs and 98 yards rushing in McKeesport blowout win.
Flying solo tonight, hosting "Quest For The Best" high school football show on KDKA radio @KDKAradio 6-8. We take calls, but we have some interesting guests.

Should the WPIAL maybe move football championships to Riverhounds new stadium in few years? Some opinions.
Plus 3 former WPIAL players are MLB Gold Glove finalists. T.J. McConnell's NBA longevity & Tevin Owen-Cratsenberg's season for ages.

Some news on WPIAL boys basketball front. Mt. Lebanon hired Tyler Bluemling as its new head coach. Was longtime assistant for Joe David, who recently resigned.
Tyler was standout player at Mt. Lebanon who then played at Duquesne U (picture). Been waiting for this opportunity.
2 weeks left in the WPIAL football regular season. Anyone wanna talk????

Aliquippa coach Mike Warfield did not coach the Quips in Friday's 31-0 victory against Beaver. Aliquippa isn't saying why he was absent or when he will be back. Rumors abound, but neither Warfield or Aliquippa superintendent Phillip Woods responded to voice or text messages.
Thanks,Clinton. This video is tremendous. You see and hear a lot about what coach Matulevic was about. One of a kind.
Wonderful article, Mike. He was my great uncle and godfather and left a lasting impact on my life, like he did for many others. Here is a clip from his legendary camp - he helped raise a lot of good young men:

I remember speaking at a Shaler Baseball Smoker and absolutely loving the support and the vibe from Jerry. He was very special and a great coach and better human.

The son of a coach, Nick Keefer has red-hot Hempfield believing big things are ahead. I caught up with Nick to talk @HempfieldAreaFB, which is nearing a feat it's achieved only once in program history. And the Spartans want more. @coachkeef_ @CardenLipp12 post-gazette.com/sports/high…
I followed Shaler baseball plenty in early to mid 80s when I was a pup sports writer. I realized Jerry Matulevic was a fantastic coach - for many reasons.
I say he is one of best coaches in WPIAL history. Jerry passed away last week.
"He left a legacy."

This came out earlier today. WPIAL announced that, like last year, the WPIAL 6A and 4A football championships will be at Pine-Richland on Saturday, Nov. 21 - 4A at noon and 6A at 6.
The other four championships will be following Saturday Nov. 28 at Acrisure.
Ranking top players from an era always is fun - and always stirs debate. Here's one guy's top WPIAL WRs since 2000.
Plus, update on why Kemon Spell hasn't been playing, some Mike Ditka memories - and more.

Western Pa. is sending far fewer players to the NFL than it did a decade ago. Why?

Offically speaking, Mike and Amanda Conlon are like father, like daughter. They are making history in stripes.
The Conlons lead this week's Prep Talk, which also has notes on @tevinowencrats' run to 2,000 - remembering Zane Dudek's great season and more.

Sad news in WPIAL football world this morning. Legendary former Blackhawk coach Joe Hamilton passed away. Coached 49 years at 4 different schools.
Was no Average Joe. Second winningest coach in WPIAL history. Here's a little story. Will add more later:
