Voyager: Humanity’s Journey Beyond the Solar System
What does it take to keep a spacecraft exploring the cosmos for nearly five decades? And what can two robotic explorers teach us about the vast space beyond our Solar System?
Join Book A Scientist for an extraordinary live lecture with Todd Barber, a propulsion engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), who now works on the iconic Voyager mission—the very mission that first inspired his passion for planetary science.

I’m lost in the murky black,
The uselessness holds me down.
But, from somewhere I hear “you’re not finished”
I know, the day is dawning
And I’ve still got hope.
But, reality sets in… questioning
Fragility overwhelms me
Paranoia drains me
“I’m not finished.”
Loss, loneliness, pain, pressure,
And fear make it all seem futile.
But,
“I’m not finished.”
Cruelty, carelessness, and lack
Can I go on?
I must. “I’m not finished.”
Is it possible? Can I go on?
Can I? Dare I?
“Yes” I hear… “because there is a dawn.”
And, I am not finished.

A city-sized asteroid will skim closer to Earth than some satellites on April 13, 2029. It will not hit us — but a NASA spacecraft is already racing to meet it.
Sign up for Dr. Erica Jawin’s Book A Scientist session to hear how Apophis’s flyby will shake, spin, and reshape a 370-meter near-Earth asteroid — and how OSIRIS-APEX (the former OSIRIS-REx spacecraft) will rendezvous afterward to map those changes up close.

During the Q&A session you can engage the scientist who studies rubble-pile worlds and sits on the OSIRIS-APEX team. Seats are filling up. Don’t miss the closest known advance look at this potentially hazardous asteroid of this size.
