Among the many things Grandma Kitty shared with Steph Curry tonight after the game at Barclays, one of my faves is a Mother’s Day card she received from her family. It read: “Happy Mother’s Day mom. Thank you for teaching us to love God, each other, and Steph Curry.” Enjoy!

In the Finals, Gabby Williams on drives to her... Left: 13 drives, 0.42 PPP Right: 11 drives, 1.0 PPP
How did the Atlanta Dream hold Gabby Williams & Tip Hayes to just 11/31 (35.5%) shooting in game 3 of the WNBA Finals? Quick video explainer of one defensive technique, "weak," the Dream used to great effect, especially against Williams, and ways the Valkyries might counter.

The Valkyries were back up to 48.8 feet tonight!
Valkyries' average pick-up distance per round: Wings: 53.1 feet Aces: 52.8 feet Dream: 37.7 feet (!) Pregame, I asked Natalie Nakase if their pick-up points were dictated by the game plan or if they’re more player-led

I asked Coach Smesko pregame about Naz’s contributions on the court that don’t always show up in the stat sheet. He talked about her ability to be able to help Dream on every possession & so much more. Naz would go on to have 15 pts 2 rebs. 3/5 from the three tonight. Post game I followed up and asked his thoughts on her performance ⤵️

“It's me hyping myself up, but I want you scared of (expletive).” Angel Reese is the thermometer of the WNBA Finals. If you can’t match her energy, you’re cooked. usatoday.com/story/sports/wn…

truth is, folks were determined to be on the wrong side of history when it comes to her. y’all were wrong for saying that she sucked, y’all were wrong for thinking that she wouldn’t improve, and now y’all are wrong for thinking that this is a completely different player.

I’m not concerned w/how people saw her. I’m talking about reality. She was an All-Star both years. I’m not suggesting that she was playing like this last year but she’s on a better team now which allows her to flourish more. The potential was always there & the context matters.
Replying to @natfluential
Don't think anyone really saw her as a star in those first 2 years b/c of the offensive liabilities. Even through the first 3 months of this season, she was among the worst offensive players in the league. That changed, and she's become much more efficient.

This is from a minute ago, but I wrote about how the Valkyries' offense just lives and dies off the toughest shot difficulty in the league. It's not for a lack of capable shotmakers, but it's unsustainable to live and die on contested looks. clutchpoints.com/wnba/golden…

She was an All-Star her first two seasons lol I want to remind people that the Sky would have made the playoffs her rookie year if Marina wasn’t traded and the injuries to Chen and Angel didn’t occur. Even after the Mabrey trade they maintained playoff position most of the yr.
Replying to @natfluential
She had a rough first 2 years and made a big leap this year. She's won DPOY and will likely win Finals MVP. That makes her part of the star club.

The Valkyries just don't have an easy button to hit against this Dream defense. You're not *targeting* Rhyne/Allisha, sans foul trouble. Ditto for DPOY & Naz. Jordin's been the default option bc of her size, but they haven't dinged that enough to truly shift ATL.

The Valkyries went 12-of-30 (40%) on 3s, 12-of-39 (30.8%) on 2s. That is ... that is something.

The Dream once again held the Valkyries to one of their worst offensive performances of the season. This time, they paired it with a high-end offensive outing of their own and 24 half-court attempts at the rim. Atlanta is now two victories away from winning the title.

and my thing is…why are we pretending that it’s abnormal for young players to improve and refine their skills? if you thought she was a finished product at 23 then you’re dumb as hell.

Usually stay away from WNBA beef because both sides are crazy extreme but I do watch women's basketball especially college ball and I always felt Angel Reese is the equivalent of Joakim Noah. Same exact skill set, style, strengths and weaknesses. Noah was an all star and DPOY but there are many fans of the WNBA that call this hate because I didn't compare her to Hakeem Olajuwon. One side compares her to Kendrick Perkins while the other says she is Kareem the truth is in the middle right where Noah or Ben Wallace live.
