Fireworks have started already. Reverberating around the houses they sound really loud. Likely to be a nightly event now. Pity the local cat and dog population for the next few weeks. #Fireworks

Pond clean out last weekend. Now waiting for the frogspawn as the weather warms up. #wildlifepond #frogs

Well done @Btnbikesheds getting a mention on #LoveYourWeekend. Great way to green up the urban environment.

#spawnmap updated Sunday 9th Feb n = 21 Please log spawn sightings : xitter.cf/PondDip/status/1885751…
I will run #SpawnMap for 2025, with a few changes. I will NOT be chasing or looking myself for reports of spawn, to see what sample size I get. I will also NOT be submitting reports on behalf of others, including ones I'm tagged in. HERE IT IS, please RT: tinyurl.com/spawnmap25

Fireworks have been going off all around for over two hours, suspect there’s another couple of hours to go and it’s not even the 5th Nov yet. Reverberates off walls so sounds even louder. Annoying but must be worse for pet owners with nervous animals. #Fireworks

Woke up to see this and at first wondered what my phone charger, laptop power cable, electric toothbrush was doing over in that corner of the room. Nope. It was a glow worm!! Indoors! Have you seen one recently? #glowworm #glowinthedark #nighttimevisitor #bioluminescence

Every time I look there’s more. Started with 8, then 10, now 11! In a small half-barrel pond. But, EVEN MORE EXCITING … a dragonfly. Maybe an emperor(?) or other hawker. #frogs #amphibians #dragonfly #wildlifepond #gardenforwildlife

Rummaging through my wood pile to find something to refurb the second compost bin and found this little lovely. Never seen one in the garden before! #commonlizard #reptiles #herpetology #urbangarden #wildlifegarden #gardeningforwildlife

Might not be an aurora tonight but did just see the ISS pass over.

For those of you with dogs out there, please keep them on lead in longer grassy areas/nature reserves/woodland, as it’s very easy to disturb (and in some cases destroy) bird nests at this time of year. Thank you 🙏
This is also why you need to keep dogs on leads particularly on nature reserves and protected sites. I've seen a willow warbler nest close to the ground destroyed by an off lead dog. I love dogs but I also love birds.

If you missed the Aurora last night and / or would like another go, then it looks like there is a good chance we’ll have another display this evening.
Extreme (G5) geomagnetic conditions have been observed!

Spotted my first swift of the year out of the office window yesterday and just watching another one flying high. Not sure if they're the residents or just passing through on their way north. #swift #migration

Glorious Spring day at @RSPB Pulborough. Reptile and Amphibian workshop, then a few hours in the hides. First cuckoo, nightingales and swallow of the year, plus one of @kneppwilding storks feeding. #spring #birds #reptiles #amphibians

For crying out loud!! @HfdsCouncil please do the right thing and throw this application on the Mediaeval midden where it belongs, along with the parish council! 🤬
A request to fell 2 protected pear trees in 'Pear Tree Close', Much Dewchurch, Herefordshire, as they attract wasps, has been supported by the parish council. An application to fell the trees has been submitted to Herefordshire Council herefordtimes.com/news/23952…

Good birding day from the garden. Two new ticks. Red kite flying over (well almost over) and a grey heron on the garage roof! Not bad for a suburban garden
