The National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognizance of a deeply disturbing media report published by India Today on 31 October 2026 regarding a brutal attack on a Class X girl student inside a school in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. The minor was allegedly attacked with a chainsaw by a man who entered the school premises during school hours. Another student was also injured while attempting to intervene. The accused has reportedly been arrested. NCW Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Director General of Police (DGP), Andhra Pradesh, seeking a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation, strict legal action against the accused, and an inquiry into any security lapses at the institution. The Commission has also called for immediate medical treatment and psychological support for both injured students and stronger security measures in educational institutions to prevent such incidents. An Action Taken Report (ATR) has been sought within seven days. Schools must remain safe spaces for children. NCW Member Smt. Nivedita Subramanian visited the District Jail, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on 1st November 2026 to inspect facilities and assess the living conditions of women inmates. She interacted with women inmates to understand their concerns, needs and challenges, with a focus on their safety, healthcare, welfare and dignified living conditions. महिलाओं की गरिमा, सम्मान और सशक्तिकरण को डिजिटल दुनिया में भी सुनिश्चित करने तथा नीति निर्माण में युवाओं की भागीदारी बढ़ाने की दिशा में राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग ने एक महत्वपूर्ण पहल की है। आयोग द्वारा 30 एवं 31 अक्टूबर, 2026 को ग्राफिक एरा विश्वविद्यालय, देहरादून में ‘युवा संवाद – मॉक राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग सलाहकार समिति’ का आयोजन किया गया। इस दो दिवसीय कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग की अध्यक्षा श्रीमती विजया रहाटकर ने किया। कार्यक्रम में उत्तराखंड राज्य महिला आयोग की अध्यक्ष श्रीमती कुसुम कंडवाल भी उपस्थित रहीं।

Remembering Anasuya Sarabhai on her death anniversary (1st November). राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग ने शनिवार को देहरादून में महिला कैदियों केअधिकार, सुरक्षा, स्वास्थ्य और सम्मान सुनिश्चित करने के उद्देश्य सेअखिल भारतीय परामर्श बैठक का आयोजन किया। बैठक में देशभर के तीस से अधिक राज्यों एवं केंद्रशासित प्रदेशों के महानिदेशक, कारागार (DG Prisons) और वरिष्ठ जेल अधिकारियों ने भाग लिया। राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग की अध्यक्षा श्रीमती विजया रहाटकर ने बैठक कानेतृत्व किया। इस परामर्श का प्रमुख उद्देश्य आयोग द्वारा विभिन्न परामर्श बैठकों के आधार पर महिला कैदियों के अधिकारों, जेलों में उनकी स्थितिऔर पुनर्वास से संबंधित केंद्र सरकार को प्रस्तुत महत्त्वपूर्ण सिफारिशों केप्रभावी क्रियान्वयन के लिए कार्य योजना तैयार करना था। कार्यक्रम में उत्तराखंड राज्य महिला आयोग की अध्यक्ष श्रीमती कुसुम कंडवाल व राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग के सदस्यगण श्रीमती निवेदिदा व श्रीमती अर्चना मिश्रा उपस्थित रहीं। बैठक के दौरान जेलों में महिलाओं से जुड़ी व्यवस्थाओं, उनके स्वास्थ्य, सुरक्षा, बुनियादी सुविधाओं और पुनर्वास को बेहतर बनाने के उपायों परविस्तार से विचार-विमर्श किया गया।

राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग की सदस्य श्रीमती अर्चना मिश्रा ने आज, 1 नवंबर 2026 को देहरादून स्थित वन स्टॉप सेंटर का निरीक्षण कर वहाँ उपलब्ध सुविधाओं एवं महिलाओं को प्रदान की जा रही सहायता सेवाओं का जायजा लिया। निरीक्षण के दौरान उन्होंने केंद्र में कर्मचारियों के रिक्त पदों को शीघ्र भरने, स्थानीय NGOs के साथ समन्वय एवं सहयोग बढ़ाने तथा केंद्र में रह रही महिलाओं और बच्चों के मानसिक एवं भावनात्मक स्वास्थ्य को ध्यान में रखते हुए मनोरंजक एवं रचनात्मक गतिविधियाँ आयोजित करने पर विशेष बल दिया। उन्होंने रेखांकित किया कि वन स्टॉप सेंटर संकटग्रस्त महिलाओं के लिए सुरक्षा, संवेदनशील देखभाल और सम्मान के साथ पुनर्वास सुनिश्चित करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं। #onestopcentre #sakhicentre #ncwindia @archnabjpup

From dialogue to policy action! On the Day 2 of ‘Yuva Samwaad – Mock NCW Advisory Committee’ in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, brought the deliberations to a close with two key sessions: Policy Framing and Presentation and Open House Questioning. Participants presented policy recommendations on the representation of women on OTT platforms, examining the portrayal of women, gender stereotypes, and the need for responsible and gender-sensitive content. The open house session encouraged critical questioning, constructive debate, and evidence-based perspectives.
