ALT Latest WCML Statement from Adam Checkley, Netwok Rail Central route engineering director. “We’re sorry to passengers who’ve faced major disruption along the West Coast Main Line due to earlier overhead line problems between Wolverhampton and Stafford. Our teams have now cleared the issue allowing the route to reopen, but with trains and their crew out of position, delays and cancellations will continue throughout the day. Please check National Rail Enquiries for the latest travel information while we work hard with our train operators to get as many trains running as possible.”

ALT Disruption update: Friday 9 October 2026 “I’m really sorry to passengers who’ve not had the service they deserve or expect on the railway this morning after the damage to overhead lines in Stockport overnight. “Our teams have now fixed the damage to the power cables and the railway lines are reopen, but it will take some time still to get train services back to normal. “In the meantime please check National Rail Enquiries or with your train operator for the latest travel information.” Clare Waller Area Director for Manchester
