Long-range fires and US force modernisation Following its withdrawal from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, and citing Russian violations, the United States began developing ground-based missile systems with ranges between 500 and 5,500 kilometres. The treaty had prohibited this capability. Long-range fires are central to force modernisation for both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. The goal is to meet the demands of great-power competition, particularly in the Indo-Pacific. These systems are now entering service. In April 2024, the U.S. Army deployed the Mid-Range Capability system (Typhon) for the first time during Exercise Salaknib 24 in the Philippines. In July, Washington and Berlin announced that the United States will begin episodic deployments of U.S. ground-based missile systems to Germany starting in 2026.

Ukrainian company SkyFall has unveiled StarGate, a heavy-lift aerial drone designed to evacuate wounded personnel from frontline positions. The six-propeller platform features a dedicated medical compartment with a stretcher and is designed to carry a payload of up to 150 kg.
