@HarryStebbings tech revolutions start with fear and end with abundance - same with AI.
I think big layoffs grab headlines, the deeper trend is leverage and ultimately a sense of possibility. AI will drive companies to find efficiencies and cause real disruption in employment (which at a human level will not be fun and we need empathy for that).
But, we’re also going to see output per person go way up and expand whats possible.
History rhymes - mechanization, electrification, the internet, and cloud didn’t kill employment. It made those who embraced new technology vastly more productive and created new, often better, ways to work. AI will let companies do more with fewer people while expanding the overall economic surface area - more and better products, services, and businesses.
Adopt and adapt → more creation. A thousand flowers bloom.

Jim Carrey illustrates
outcomes are fleeting. founders, artists, athletes… doesn’t matter. if you’re chasing anything, you have to ask: why?
because the ending never hits the way you think it will. the outcome fades. fast.
what sticks is whether the pursuit made you feel something. did it light you up? did it break you open? did you laugh hard with people you love?
that’s probably the only real scoreboard.

Overheard that a marathon is a 10km race with a 32km warmup. Important to finish strong because compounding is back-ended.
Back-ended compounding is the reason I disagree with the career approach of “hitting a number by a certain age” & THEN “following my passion”! (1/3)

I'm not an expert in the stock market, but it seems odd that the market is down so much because of a disease that will depress earnings for 2-3 quarters at most. What's the argument that these companies are worth 10% less on average over the long term?

The hustle of Indian SaaS founders is unlike anything/anywhere I've seen. Daytime: running their startups. Nighttime: US customer calls. Weekends: hackathons/meetups for keeping up on latest tech and events/coffee-chats for hiring. Very inspiring.

Great thread. Here's another:
2005, 2006, 2009: JMI invests $13.5M in ServiceNow across 3 rounds for a majority stake
2012: ServiceNow IPOs at ~$2.2B valuation. JMI owned 49.4% post-IPO.
2019: $NOW up ~15X per share and mkt cap is $47B. Still growing ~35% with 25%+ FCF margins
