A series of suspicious bets that correctly predicted the exact top-five finishing order of this year’s Ballon d’Or and generated almost $200,000 in winnings is being investigated by organisers, who have also contacted police. Story with @Romain_Molina theguardian.com/football/202…

Patrick Stewart in the final scene on Star Trek: The Next Generation. It’s extremely simple, but reveals so much of his character if you watched. Somehow his sense of duty and sensitivity, along with the admiration of his crew shines through. RIP Captain.

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026) Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire. His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen. Ian McKellen 29 October 2026 Photo: University of Huddersfield

Yep Dave that idea (which we’ve had for 20 seasons) just won’t work at this level as it never has right 🤔. But being serious for a moment; I take full responsibility for all the squads built over my 20 years owning Posh. For some reason I have a lot of confidence in the current one. RS will bring the best out of them & we as owners will support him in doing so. My promise to you the fans is always honesty, So I make a promise that if this squad isn’t top 10 by February, I’ll put my share of the club up for sale & let others take the baton with our wonderful club. 💙

🚨Key precedent in the Mancity sham: In the Nottingham Forest case, Forest argued on appeal that its points deduction should be suspended, essentially requesting a “Stay of Execution.” The Appeal Board rejected that argument, confirming that the independent Commission was entitled to impose the deduction immediately. Man City cannot spend years fighting an investigation, refuse to cooperate, and then expect special treatment when the consequences finally arrive. You cannot drag out the process, challenge the outcome, and suddenly demand a Stay of Execution because the punishment is severe. The rules cannot be optional during the investigation and negotiable when justice catches up with you. A thief doesn’t get to choose when or how justice is served.

Remember when Serie A relegated their biggest club, Juventus? The league fell off so badly that nobody watches it again. Even when Juventus returned, the league has continued struggling till today. That's the same thing that will happen if they relegate City. They need to look at the bigger picture before destroying the very league they're trying to protect.
