Academic writing is wild bc you’ll read four articles just to write one sentence. Anyway, here’s a thread of resources I’ve been using to speed through this review I’m working on:

Everyone knows you can’t be successful in science by working 9-5. You have to work 10-6.

My two oldest kids (8 and 6) ask me to tell them an “interesting fact” every night at bedtime. Having now exhausted my own supply of memorized trivia as well as several random lists on the internet, I’m taking suggestions below…

scholarcy.com • Click “Try scholarly now” • Upload your paper • Read the generated summary. Great way to get the lay of the land on a topic! If a paper seems particularly important go read the whole thing.

To anyone who seeks to apply to grad school, either master or PhD. Finding a good PI is absolutely more important than any school or program ranking I'm extremely blessed for having one as supportive as mine #PhDLife #PhDAdvice @OpenAcademics @ivorytowerBS @AcademicChatter #PhD

Was walking back from lunch with a coworker. He knew my major and asked “so, what is it about neuroscience that excites you?” 5 yrs later we still stay up past midnight talking about advances in science & tech and drawing diagrams on our whiteboard.
If you’re on a first date and you’re talking science, it’s a bad date.

THREAD: I went to bed angry and I woke up angry. I am enraged...On the same day that ICUs were so full, more field hospitals were being built and our health experts were calling the 3rd wave of #COVID19 a "humanitarian catastrophe"...the Ontario government let us down. /1

"Where are you headed, citizen?" "I'm going to get on a crowded bus and ride for 45 minutes to a warehouse with known Covid cases, and work there packed next to people ineligible for a vaccine for about 12 hours." "Understood, carry on. HEY! Get off that teeter-totter!"

Here's my best financial (and general) advice for rising #PhD students: Don't think of yourself as a "student," even though you technically will be one. #gradschool #gradstudent #AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter

2. The paradox of writing: Great writing looks effortless. But because the ideas are so clear, casual readers don't appreciate how much time it took to refine them.

Accepted! Super excited to present my thesis research at the @AOMConnect Annual Meeting this summer.
January 6, 2020: looking at my pre-Christmas break notes trying to remember what these acronyms stood in my thesis brainstorm notes stood for. Today: paper under peer review for a conference 🥳
