Following a physical assault over his outspoken stance on festival sound systems, social activist Vidyanand Bapat has declared his determination to build a powerful public movement against DJs and noise pollution in Pune. Speaking at a press conference, Bapat asserted that a battle of ideas must be fought with thoughts, not fists, and expressed satisfaction with the police protection quickly provided to him. He voiced serious safety concerns, sharing his fear that a tragic fate similar to that of rationalist Dr. Narendra Dabholkar could happen to him, but vowed that if he survives, he will actively march in the movement's first protest rally from Goodluck Cafe to the Pune Municipal Corporation. Clarifying his position, Bapat emphasized that he does not oppose Hindu festivals or any religious celebrations, but strongly objects to public chaos, noise pollution, and holding citizens hostage. To avoid disrupting urban transit, he proposed that processions be moved to a single lane on wide roads outside the city, or that mandals voluntarily choose to cancel processions altogether to minimize sound levels. Pointing out Nagpur's successful implementation of a DJ ban, Bapat criticized the lack of administrative will in Pune and announced plans to legally challenge the current noise guidelines directly in the Supreme Court of India. #VidyanandBapat #PuneDJBan #NoisePollution #PuneNews #Ganeshotsav
