what i personally noticed is that 99% of vitriolic hate towards writers comes from people who joined fandom spaces during/post COVID and rpf/kpop fic consumers much to think about

Fic writers who want engagement are not mining for kudos or whatever. We are people who screamed for 20,000 words about our ship and now WE WANNA TALK TO PEOPLE ABOUT IT!! When we say we want interaction, we mean we want to talk about the thing we both like!

people seeing commenting/engaging with fic as transactional rather than conversational is the root of all fandom evil tbh

The idea that a fic u write from your own head & heart, infused with the essence of YOU & shared w/ ppl you think might connect with those tiny pieces put into characters u all love somehow NOT belonging to u, but a bunch of ungrateful little shits on the internet is genuinely SO

Since the 90s, the standard has been: You will always get credit, but it doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the fandom. It's not OC work, your fanfic isn't copyrighted. 90s Authors wrote on blogs/geocities, fanfics were shared by email, there was no searchable repository!

watching ao3 readers harass authors is like watching a dog bite the hand that feeds it

Arguably the biggest and most saddening part of this fanfic repost discourse is that the issue is less about the reposting and more about the fact that people will do everything in their power to remove authors from the equation while still wanting their work.

看到一堆噁心的發言跟毫不尊重創作者的言論 我內心某處或許還真的希望AO3永遠修不好算了
