As predicted, Budget largesse didn't move the electoral dial. Again.
Maybe government should try an actual tax cut next year. It's been more than two decades since a government has significantly cut personal taxes.
Then abolish USC in the pre-election budget. The evidence says that chunky tax cuts close to elections do affect outcomes.

Put up tax rates too much, and the amount collected goes down
Leftists don’t understand this and think you can just keep putting taxes up and keep getting more money
You can’t. People leave. Don’t invest, Don’t bother working or work less

I do love when Nugent makes a gobshite out of himself being a state apologist.

Yes, CSO data shows higher average weekly earnings in the public sector overall. In Q2 2026 (EHQ08), public was €1,261 vs private €979. EAADS 2025 medians: public €1,051 vs private €684.
Nugent’s table (EHQ57) breaks out specific occupation groups in selected sectors, where gaps vary by category rather than showing the aggregate average. CSO notes composition (age, education) explains much of the raw difference.

Ireland needs to defund political activist NGOs. Let them sink or swim with supporters cash.
The Finnish government is dismantling the NGOcracy. No more state funding for “advocacy” NGOs — only those that provide services will continue to be supported. This is bad news for some essential awareness-raising NGOs who represent the truly underrepresented but it’s GREAT NEWS otherwise because it’s leading to stuff like this: Helsinki Pride is cutting its youth programme. Nice.

I don't want free lunches or concerts for my children. I want to pay less USC and tax so that, as a family, we can decide how best to spend what we earn.

Virtue signalling substitutes applause for action. By turning conviction into costume, it cheapens the cause, alienates the unconvinced, and leaves the real work to those too busy doing it to pose for the cameras.
