I'm sitting this morning wondering which BigTech cloud the "Lavendar" & "Where's Daddy?" systems are running on. What APIs they might be using. Which libraries they're likely calling What work did my former colleagues, did I, did you contribute to that may now be enabling this?

New imagery from North Gaza. The target was never Hamas, it was all of Gaza. It was all Palestinians.

Everyone should have healthcare whether or not you have a job. Everyone should have food whether or not you have a job. Everyone should have housing whether or not you have a job. Poverty isn’t a moral failure. In the richest country in the world, it’s a policy choice.

What I wish people understood in the sub game controller discourse is that they're better off using that than all the home grown control systems I've seen roboticists come up with.

Tech bros: hey writers! guess what? We've solved your biggest problem! Writers: OMG that's so awesome! We're going to be paid a living wage? Tech bros: Writers: The deeply disfunctional publishing world is going to improve somehow? Tech bros: Writers: Health insurance!?

Orcas have sunk 3 boats in Europe and appear to be teaching others to do the same. Scientists think a traumatized orca initiated the assault on boats after a "critical moment of agony" and that the behavior is spreading among the population. livescience.com/animals/orca…

This is Jordan Neely. On Monday, he was lynched. On the NYC subway he started telling passengers that he was fed up being hungry, thirsty and having no place to rest. He began to shout in his frustration, and threw his jacket on the floor. An ex-marine then murdered him.🧵

Pretty incredible that Google is trying to get away with blaming macroeconomic conditions for their layoffs, when over the last year they’ve spend 57.36B on stock buybacks. That’s enough to support the 12,000 laid off engineers at their median engineer compensation for 23 years.

Seeing some takes that locate tech's mass layoffs' silver lining in the fact that fired workers are now free to make startups + retake tech from the bigs But startups don't compete w big tech anymore. They license big tech infra & compete w each other to get acquired by big tech

Unsolicited new year advice thread: 1. Now and then walk around your home and record a video of it. Open the closets and drawers. Point out items of personal or great financial value.

2. Print to PDF anything you can get a digital receipt for, or take a photo of receipts of any substantial value or for items you will likely keep for a long time

Honestly that's it. We have insurance itemization on the brain and we're lucky we did do both of these things. If you own a home I think the process is different, but renters policies benefit from itemizing well. Happy New Year 🥳

I'll admit that the NYE show put on at Seattle Center was fun. The Space Needle is a good platform for setting off a fireworks show.

Every Christmas is going to be the Christmas to make up for the previous X years of Christmas holidays I consider stolen for various reasons, but then I just get hoisted anyway. If you asked me how long a 26' moving truck could remain missing I would not have guessed 3 weeks.

Someone mailed me my switch back after buying it off OfferUp because they realized it was stolen when they saw the guy they bought it from and decided there's no way he'd play Into the Breach.

I know "beggars can't be choosers", but if your house is empty it's really funny to receive someone's old saucepan sized pressure cooker I just don't understand how they expected this to be of any use right now
