Back in 2022, the IIHF decided that upon its return, Russia would take the place of the team promoted to the top division after finishing second in Division I. Ukraine became that team for the first time in 20 years.
Now Ukraine risks losing its spot to Russia, according to Anders Larsson, a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation Council.
A final decision on exactly how Russia's return will be organised has not yet been made.
