In 1886 Vincent van Gogh painted a skull with a lit cigarette between its teeth, and people have been trying to work out why ever since...
At first glance it looks like a warning: a grinning head of bone against a dark background, smoke rising from the cigarette as if death itself were taking a break. Some see it as a reminder of how short life is, others as a comment on his own failing health, and others again as a jab at the stiff art school he was attending. The museum that owns it, though, offers a much simpler answer: the Van Gogh Museum calls it “a juvenile joke.”
He painted it that winter, at 32, while he was studying at the art academy in Antwerp. Drawing skeletons was a standard exercise there, a way for students to learn anatomy, and the painting shows that Van Gogh had a good command of it. But painting them was not part of the lessons, so he must have made this one in his own time, as if he had taken the most serious exercise in the academy and decided to give it a cigarette...
The joke has a darker side, though, because that winter Van Gogh was in terrible shape. He was poor, exhausted and barely eating, his teeth were breaking off, and in a letter to his brother Theo he admitted that he had “made it worse by smoking a great deal,” because it helped him forget how hungry he was. So when he gave a skull a lit cigarette, he may have been laughing at himself a little too.
And yet for Van Gogh, tobacco was never really a symbol of death. He smoked his pipe all his life and loved it, and two years later, from his little yellow house in Arles, he wrote that the most beautiful paintings are “those one dreams of while smoking a pipe in one’s bed.” In his hands, that tiny glowing cigarette might not be a warning at all, but a small, stubborn spark of life in the mouth of death...

We've quite literally never seen anything like the 2026 Milwaukee Brewers superteam
10-1 in the playoffs, an unbeatable bullpen, an offensive juggernaut that could go 8-0 in the NLCS & World Series...and we're going to shut down the sport in a month lol

As I write this, it's Brewers 10, Rays 0 in the bottom of the 5th. Did anyone notice that all 4 "expert analysts" on the Fox pregame picked Tampa Bay to win this evening? Ouch.

Ya'll, this is nuts.
Hundreds - that's right, HUNDREDS - of armed robberies between 2022 and 2024 weren't real.
They were staged by the "victims" as part of a massive immigration fraud scheme to secure U-visas for themselves and their families.

The guy who built this intergalactic porta potty is criticizing the way Trump decorates the White House.
Correct.
Using Starlink, a civilian commercial service, for offensive drone strikes to kill people has never been allowed, nor should it be.
Starshield, a different system, is controlled by the US government. What they decide to do is up to them.
Ukraine military violated Starlink terms of service and used it for offensive drone strikes to kill people. That loophole was closed last week.
Starlink remains critical to the defense of Ukraine, as it is the only system that cannot be jammed or blown up, at least for now. Were Starlink to be turned off, the Ukrainian front line would collapse immediately. This is NOT a threat, it is simply a statement of fact.
Starlink was also crucial to preventing Russia from overrunning Ukraine in the early days of the war, as all other means of communication were destroyed or jammed by Russia.
SpaceX has done more to defend Ukraine than any private company on Earth BY FAR.
That said, I have nothing but UTTER CONTEMPT for the virtue-signaling evil warmongers who push for endless slaughter and offer no realistic solution to the conflict. May you burn in hell.
End of story.
