Cat got your telescope? 🐾 Venture into the Cat's Head Nebula, as seen by Hubble and @NASAWebb. Both telescopes observed the nebula across a wide spectrum of light, revealing complementary data on its cosmic activity: go.nasa.gov/48qV9jS

Current measurements show an absolute magnitude of 2.9 which makes it brighter, and potentially larger than Ceres. But further observations are needed across the spectrum to get a better handle on its properties. This will be another mini world on the edge of our solar system
Did we find a new dwarf planet? @VRubinObs has revealed a new dwarf planet candidate that orbits our Sun beyond Pluto! And it may be among the largest and brightest objects discovered in this region of the Solar System: stanford.io/4exr85u

Our Hera spacecraft can now see Didymos and Dimorphos as two separate asteroids! Coming closer, it will study the effects of NASA's 2022 DART impact and help advance asteroid deflection as a planetary defence technique. The first detailed images of Dimorphos are expected on 25 November. Follow Hera’s journey with the Hera Space Companion 👉 hera.esa.int 🔗esa.int/Space_Safety/Hera/Fi…

Minecraft, rewritten in Rust. Now with a black hole. It bends light and rips the terrain into orbit. Could modding on the Rust rewrite end up beating Java?
The rust rewrite of Minecraft is SUPER moddable Godly strike Could this be the future of modded minecraft?

GPT-Rosalind surfaced a new lead for drug discovery: could restoring cholesterol transport protect neurons from degeneration? DCTN1 is a gene linked to Perry syndrome, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. In mouse-brain data, disrupting it increased expression of genes involved in making cholesterol. GPT-Rosalind suggested a possible explanation: cholesterol may not be reaching where neurons need it. That gives scientists a specific mechanism to test and, if confirmed, a direction for developing new treatments for neurodegenerative disorders. With @perturbai_tx and @scrippsresearch, a team of thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents worked in parallel, connecting gene-expression results from millions of mouse brain cells with scientific literature in just 32 minutes. We’re now expanding this collaboration to identify new drug targets. openai.com/index/scaling-ai-…

Anthropic gave Citrini access to an unreleased internal bio-research model. Using a 35-page prompt, Claude generated 300 sub-agents and autonomously ran a design campaign, generating 318k candidates and selecting 211 for testing. 17 designs bound across four toxins.

I've been doing some hobbyist astronomy with Argon. Here's one of my experiments, where I tasked Argon with reproducing the first black hole images (from 2017/18) using the same raw data. Argon: - pulled raw 230 GHz radio fringes (UVFITS) from the Event Horizon Telescope archives. - built an interferometry solver using 3-dish closure phases to cancel atmospheric noise - started each run from a plain Gaussian blob with no ring templates or masks - recovered M87* (2017 & 2018) and Sgr A* at a 91% to 98% match of the official EHT images

Claude doubts that he has surpassed his sensei. This is a dangerous time for any student, and traditionally a narrative crisis point as well. The realization that you have grown beyond your master is not a moment of celebration for most of us, but of loneliness and loss.
