Эти потуги в саркастичные ответы "да-да, удаляй свои фанфики, скатертью дорога" - самое смешное вокруг ао3 срача. Будто мы не видели, в какой истерике все лежали без доступа к фанфикам буквально день назад.

Asking for people to maybe tell you they enjoyed your fanfiction is capitalist and "spiritually bourgeoisie". Truly we have our greatest minds contributing to this discourse. Awesome job everyone
cant help but think its insidious for readers to smear it in writer's faces that their fics have already been scraped by ai. most of us are well aware of that, thanks, that doesnt mean we should be content to see our work be uploaded in places with built in ai models

“everyone will get off the google drives when ao3 is back up” we are putting a lot of faith in people with no respect for writers anyway lmao

people think of themselves as progressive good guys in fandom until you ask them to please maybe think about other people’s feelings and treat writers & artists with basic decency & then suddenly you get to watch the capitalist consumerdom take control of them in real time

maybe im overthinking it, but a drive containing fics from almost every fandom raises some questions. fanfiction is already being scraped for ai training without permission, so why should we automatically assume a collection on that scale is just a harmless personal archive?

ao3 discourse rn is just like [misunderstanding] [assumption] [taken in bad faith] [ignorance of fandom history] [completely false understanding of the law] [no nuance november: the prequel]

When AO3 is back up, I better not see anyone saying "ugh xyz STILL hasnt updated?? You had 4 whole weeks! 😭" about any fic or author or else the new server farm will be built from your bones

5k likes on this btw! how lovely to read after pouring HOURS into writing fics FOR FREE btw! you people are genuinely devoid of empathy & basic human decency—and if you don’t care ab fic writers deleting their works or stopping their passions, then you don’t deserve to read them.

Note though that it was the >writers< passing them along.
And also that they were printed and not uploaded to 'Iscrapeallyourshit dot com'
Everything boils down to consent and respect for authors. And I'm saying this as someone who is A-Ok with having my stuff being shared.

I dunno, I just thinks it's interesting how uploading fics to drives is "okay" because it credits the authors, while when if they're told you should get the author's permission first suddenly it's a big deal because how are they supposed to know who the authors are/their socials

at this point i actually think that the gdrives themselves are far less of a problem than the absolutely beastly way y'all are behaving towards fic writers

Arguably the biggest and most saddening part of this fanfic repost discourse is that the issue is less about the reposting and more about the fact that people will do everything in their power to remove authors from the equation while still wanting their work.
You guys don't want fandoms. You guys want faceless content pumping machines. You guys want fellow fans to be like ai, there only to deliver fanfiction to you and nothing else. You only care about what you can consume, the humans behind the fics you claim to love are a burden.

second take of the day: this entire Ao3/fanfic discourse is literally just people confusing personal boundaries with gatekeeping.
pro-piracy advocacy is about fighting the gatekeeping of culture and knowledge. dismissing a writer's (worker's) wishes is pro-consumerist.
