I'll be releasing Private Sales: The Art Market on Android and iOS on November 13th. It's an art-dealing adventure of hidden masterpieces and enigmatic collectors. Video, screenshots, and preorder links here: privatesales.onyxfish.dev/

I think October represents another inflection point in capabilities for coding agents and the models that drive them: Claude Opus 5.5 can now build video games that are actually fun simonwillison.net/2026/Oct/2…
I've spent less than 4 hours building a purpose-fit roadmapping tool and I already prefer it to any free/freemium tool I've ever used:
• Dependencies with zip ties
• Elegant drag/drop semantics
• No UI/metadata cruft

This game embodies the passion I've developed for art and art history over the past 15 years. I think it's quite good, my beta testers love it, and I'm excited to share it with a larger audience.
Happy SCOTUS oral arguments season to those who observe! open.spotify.com/show/4MKC4K…
I haven't spoken much about my time @CDCgov , but the damage that's been done to the public health system is going to haunt us for decades in ways most of us never realize. It's truly a national tragedy. nytimes.com/2026/09/26/healt…
The most remarkable thing about @ezraklein's interview with @JensenHuang is the fact he will not even entertain that `software → AI` represents a `chemistry → biology` like step-change. I can't imagine how any honest person discounts that so confidently.
Opus 5.5 is as-advertised. Less verbose and more token efficient, while producing best-in-class results on everything I've thrown at it. The first time in a little while a new model has felt more fun to use.
I asked Fable 5.1 to clean up slop comments in a 75k LOC codebase written mostly by Opus 5. It used my entire 5h and Fable weekly budgets almost instantly and deleted 10k lines. Very happy, but what an expensive fix!

This is one of the bleakest media layoff memos I’ve seen in 12 years covering the industry. Ugh.
Working with Claude I was able to assemble a 95% complete, static version of the site from a partial backup and the Wayback Machine archives. Thankfully the DNS was still in the hands of friends, who transferred it back to us so I could redirect it at S3.
We were very sad when I learned that the Wordpress server had been shut down. Nearly everything I built in my career in news is gone from the internet, but this was more personal. It was _our site_.
I just completed deploying a static archive of The Tyler Loop, the nonprofit news outlet my wife and I built started in 2017. thetylerloop.com/ I'm so happy to. have all site's great reporting back online after being completely dark for ~6 months.
It feels like we're reaching a point where the rational thing to do would be to divert a large portion of surplus capital to having frontier models churn on every major unsolved research question that's plausibly provable from first principles.
We asked an unreleased research version of Claude to take a stab at the Riemann hypothesis.
It didn’t solve it, but it did make strides on a related problem: it increased the lower bound for the fraction of zeros of the Riemann zeta function that satisfy the hypothesis from 41.6% to 67.2%.

Honestly, I know everyone is doing this, but wtf Claude. I'm sure that comment is really going to help me out down the road.
