One cool thing here is that this game loses zero FPS enabling DLS/NR; it's a very old engine and capped to 60fps 😅 so I see my GPU Load double with the neural render but it's still well below 100% (RTX 5080). But "retro" games aren't really a good use-case for this technology...
Those hanging shirts are a good success case; the original is too bright, DLSS/NR makes illumination look more realistic and also reveals a lot of volume with very subtle shadowing.
Now the big dude here. DLSS/NR does an excellent job improving fine AO in every crevice, and light scattering on skin, I love that. But it also over-sharpens skin details like pores to hell and it messes up color again.
Having my first tastes of DLSS/NR now that more games have it, and I'm not very impressed so far. First I tried Portal RTX where it doesn't do anything of note and HL2 RTX where it makes very little difference and not clearly better. But then I tried Metro Redux. 🧵
