i really hate this developing idea that you don't owe anybody anything and that all social contracts are ridiculous. you can't behave purely in self-interest and then expect generosity from others. if you want to be a part of a community, you have to value the people within it.

Everytime I watch this scene I tear up a little. The way Arthur wants to be friends with Merlin to understand what’s weighing on him, help him through it the way Merlin always does for him…the way Merlin can’t tell him the truth & Arthur thinks Merlin sees him only as his master
