At Databricks, we've built an awesome model training and tuning stack. We now used it to release DBRX, the best open source LLM on standard benchmarks to date, exceeding GPT-3.5 while running 2x faster than Llama-70B. databricks.com/blog/introduc…

I keep seeing, “The layoffs are in part due to greater use of AI.” As someone who builds AI tools and helps companies adopt them, I just Don’t Buy It.

I think I have a claim to be the weakest possible opponent with the same rating! (struggle to beat 10 year old kids when I play once a year, and I have no idea how to use cloud engines or install chessbase anymore)
Just want the Candidates candidates to know I am available for matches from tomorrow - Dec 31 st. My rating is 2618, I am older and weaker.

Wrestlers full statement. For those who can't read Hindi: You all saw what happened with us on 28 May, you saw the way the police behaved with us. The urgency with which we were arrested when we were peacefully demonstrating. 1/n #WrestlersProtest

Finally we've a chessplayer who makes following these events fun!
Strangest incident ever seen on the chessboard. Hans Niemann is involved once again. What happened that made Sam Sevian pick up his opponent’s King? #chess #uschesschamps

Ummm No. This only reinforces the need for accurate science reporting. Combination hyperbole and inaccurate reporting fuels misinformation. Some brief thoughts (bear with the slightly rambling nature 😉) 1/n
This looks like Theranos level fraud. The last 16 years of Alzheimer’s research looks to have been built on deliberately falsified data. It’s why Alzheimer’s drugs have a 99% failure rate in trials. The thing they’re trying to fix isn’t the problem. dailykos.com/story/2022/7/22…

1/4 We are developing a benchmark to evaluate cardinality estimators w.r.t their impact on SQL query optimization w/ @tim_kraska @andreaskipf @RyanMarcus @tatbul @hongzimao. We go into more detail behind its motivations here: learnedsystems.mit.edu/cardi…

3/4 If you inject PostgreSQL estimates, you get the left plan. This is 7x worse (in terms of PostgreSQL costs) than the plan on the right, which uses known true sizes. These costs correlate well with execution times, therefore, you can often use them instead of executing queries

4/4 Using the framework in github.com/learnedsystems/CE… , you can plug in your own estimator in Python, and see the impact on query plans, execute the queries on PostgreSQL etc. And if possible, please contribute new databases or queries to the benchmark - thanks!
