“I’m a firm believer in science, and I’m gonna stick with that. Hopefully everybody abides by whatever the league sets the rules. I think that, once everybody buys in, we’re gonna be fine.”
Michael Jordan, the six-time NBA champion and current Charlotte Hornets owner, played three seasons at the University of North Carolina before leaving for the draft and later completed a B.A. in geography. Zero medical, scientific, epidemiological, or public-health qualifications - just the greatest basketball player of his era whose cultural and ownership platform let him declare “science” and league rules the final word on vaccination.
In an October 2021 TODAY show interview, he publicly declared himself “total in unison with the league” on its COVID protocols, which imposed daily testing, masking, and travel restrictions on unvaccinated players while local mandates barred them from home arenas. He framed compliance as the path to a healthy season and said that once “everybody buys in, we’re gonna be fine,” in the same window high-profile holdouts faced exclusion and public pressure. The message from the Hornets owner and global icon was that the rules and the shot were the science-backed solution.
The legend who sold “buy-in” to the league’s protocols as the way everyone would be fine watched continued outbreaks, breakthrough infections, and the same health-and-safety protocols disrupt the season he said would be fine once everyone complied. Players who refused still faced career damage and stigma; vaccinated players still tested positive and missed games. Jordan kept the ownership stake, the Jordan Brand empire, and the platform. He remains one of the richest athletes in history after the clean, science-backed season his public endorsement assumed never fully arrived.
A geography graduate and basketball icon who turned “I’m a firm believer in science… once everybody buys in, we’re gonna be fine” into public support for differential rules is platform power with zero medical expertise, delivered from the TODAY set.

“We could put this thing to bed if we’d all do this.”
Former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer earned a degree in physical education from Illinois State University after a playing career cut short by injury. Zero medical, scientific, epidemiological, or public-health qualifications - he is a longtime defensive coach who decided a PE major and sideline authority authorized him to lecture grown men on medical compliance.
He repeatedly told the media and his team that unvaccinated players “are going to have a harder time in the season,” listing the punishments: daily testing, masks, no bye-week travel home, no dinners on the road, separate travel, and virtual meetings. He expressed open frustration with unvaccinated players and “everybody” who refused the shot, said “I just don’t understand,” dismissed their reasons as “woof, out there,” and insisted the team could end the problem if everyone simply complied. He had himself vaccinated and used his platform to push the NFL’s differential protocols as both a safety measure and a competitive necessity.
The coach who claimed universal vaccination would “put this thing to bed” watched breakthrough cases and protocol disruptions continue anyway, because the shots never stopped transmission - the core premise behind every “harder time” warning and competitive-advantage pitch. Players who declined still faced isolation and lost time; Zimmer kept the headset until the Vikings fired him after the 2021 season. The pressure and the public shaming landed on athletes; the PE major moved on to analyst roles.
A physical-education graduate who turned “put this thing to bed” into a public scolding of unvaccinated players is platform power with zero expertise, delivered from the podium.

“I recently received my second dose and am excited for the protection it provides me and the possibilities that will open up to us as more and more community members become fully vaccinated. By getting the vaccine you are protecting yourself and those closest to you.”
Lucy Vinis is a graduate of Kenyon College and holds master’s degrees from the University of Maryland and the University of Michigan. That is the medical file: a longtime Eugene resident who worked for non-profits including EarthShare of Oregon, the Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides, and ShelterCare, and who served as mayor of Eugene from January 2017 to January 2025 - her first elected office. No M.D., no epidemiology, no immunology, no public-health degree, no clinic.
On April 19, 2021, the day all Oregonians 16 and older became eligible, she recorded a video stating that she had recently received her second dose, that she was excited for the protection it provided her and for the possibilities that would open as more community members became fully vaccinated, that getting the vaccine protected yourself and those closest to you, supported local businesses, helped children return to activities, and helped health-care providers.
Vinis said people with the vaccine were not immune but were far less likely to die or experience the worst effects, that everyone must continue wearing masks in public places and avoid group settings where people were not vaccinated, and that other parts of the country showed what happened when people did not wait for vaccinations. The City of Eugene did not impose its own employee vaccine mandate; some first responders fell under state rules, and the city continued to encourage the shot.
She took the second dose, called it the protection that would open the city, and told residents the unvaccinated were still the reason to keep masking and avoiding groups. The product did not stop infection or transmission. She left office in January 2025. The residents she said would open the possibilities by getting vaccinated, and the people she told to keep avoiding unvaccinated settings, did not get an apology when the protection she named failed.
Lucy said she was excited for the protection. Then the possibilities did not open the way she described, and the mayor left.

“@HouseDemocrats have a 100% vaccination rate. Public health officials have made their guidance clear: get vaxxed or stay masked. Yet some House GOP Members think they’re above science, common sense, and House rules. Too bad there isn’t a vaccine against magical thinking.”
Maryland’s 8th District congressman and Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee (base salary $174,000), Jamie Raskin holds a B.A. from Harvard College (1983, government/political theory) and a J.D. from Harvard Law School (1987). Decades as a constitutional law professor at American University. Zero medical, scientific, epidemiological, or public-health qualifications - he is a lawyer who decided the Constitution authorizes him to police other people’s medical choices.
He publicly received the vaccine in December 2020 and called it an act of pure patriotism. Throughout 2021 he repeatedly highlighted Democrats’ 100% vaccination rate, told Republican colleagues the only reason masks stayed on the House floor was because of them, and said he was “not interested in them getting fined. I’m interested in them getting vaccinated.” He urged constituents to “tell the unvaccinated about the vaccine’s safety & efficacy,” grilled Great Barrington Declaration signers, and treated vaccine hesitancy as dangerous propaganda while amplifying the “science-based” mandate narrative.
In March 2022, fully vaccinated and boosted, Raskin tested positive for COVID-19 with mild flu-like symptoms and worked from home. The same man who mocked others for “magical thinking” became a textbook breakthrough case. A non-doctor with a law degree spent a year shaming colleagues and the public into compliance, then caught the virus under the exact regimen he demanded of everyone else.
Still collecting the congressional paycheck and lecturing about public health with no relevant expertise, he helped normalize the pressure that cost others their jobs, school access, and bodily autonomy while enjoying the elite protections of the House.
A Harvard Law Review editor who thought a J.D. made him an epidemiologist - and then got COVID anyway - is the purest form of credential fraud.

“I believe everyone should get vaccinated, that’s my opinion. I believe everyone should be vaccinated… and everybody should wear a mask. I see nothing wrong with it.”
Edward C. Gainey holds a B.A. in business management from Morgan State University (1994). That is the medical file: a former legislative aide, special projects manager under a prior Pittsburgh mayor, member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from the 24th District, and mayor of Pittsburgh from January 2022 to January 2026 - the first African American to hold the office. No M.D., no epidemiology, no immunology, no public-health degree, no clinic. The credential for seeing nothing wrong with requiring the shot and the mask is a business degree and the mayor’s office.
In August 2021, while the Democratic nominee, he said everyone should get vaccinated, that he wanted people vaccinated to enter a restaurant, and that if New York City’s proof-of-vaccination rules were helping move society forward he would look at them. He said he understood vaccine hesitancy in the African-American community because of historical mistreatment, but that scientists of all races were getting the shot, and that he himself had gotten it.
In October Gainey repeated that everyone should be vaccinated and masked, and that he saw nothing wrong with it. After taking office he continued the city-employee mandate inherited from Bill Peduto. By February 2022 four employees had been fired for non-compliance. His press secretary later said the city had decided to deny all requested religious exemptions. When asked if the mandate was working, Gainey said, “Well, it seems to be working. There’s no question about it, it seems to be working.”
In December 2021, after a rapid test that later proved false, he said it was extremely important that everybody in Pittsburgh get the vaccine and a booster. In April 2022 he tested positive while fully vaccinated and boosted, reported minor symptoms, and said he was thankful for the protection and hoped his diagnosis would remind others to remain vigilant. The megaphone was the campaign and City Hall.
He took the shots, called the mandate working, denied religious exemptions, and then caught the virus anyway. The product did not stop infection or transmission. He lost the 2025 Democratic primary and left office in January 2026. The city workers who faced termination, and the residents he said should be vaccinated to enter a restaurant, did not get a correction when the rule he said was working failed the one job he assigned it.
Ed said it seemed to be working. Then he tested positive, and the mandate remained.

“Look, you’re there, you’re getting paid by the taxpayer - you have an obligation, whether it’s delivering public health or public safety. You’re interacting with the public. That’s a part of your job, by definition.”
Maura Tracy Healey holds an A.B. in government from Harvard University (1992) and a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law (1998). That is the medical file: a former professional basketball player in Austria, federal law clerk, Massachusetts Attorney General from 2015 to 2023, and governor of Massachusetts since January 2023. No M.D., no epidemiology, no immunology, no public-health degree, no clinic.
In April 2021 she said on Boston Public Radio that public employees paid by the taxpayer had an obligation because they interacted with the public, and that a right to refuse a vaccine did not necessarily mean a right to a certain job if the job required certain standards. In May she required public-facing staff in her office to be vaccinated upon return to in-person work. In August she expanded it to all staff in the Attorney General’s office, effective September 27, with medical and religious exemptions.
Healey said the pandemic was not over, that she had said from the start that as many people as possible needed to get vaccinated, and that she required all staff to be vaccinated to protect colleagues and the public they serve. She called Governor Charlie Baker’s mandate for state employees “the right move” and “absolutely legal in my view.” The platform was the Attorney General’s office and statewide radio. The training was law.
She told every taxpayer-funded worker that interacting with the public meant taking the shot or forfeiting the job, then imposed the same rule on her own staff. The product did not stop infection or transmission. She is now governor. The public employees who faced the choice between the needle and the paycheck, and the residents told the mandate was legal because it was the right move, did not get a correction when the obligation she defined failed the one job she assigned it.
Maura said the job required a shot. Then the shot failed the job, and the requirement remained.

“Our global pandemic is now becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated. Those who are unvaccinated are allowing the virus to mutate and put everyone, even those who are vaccinated, at risk.”
Thomas Patrick McNamara holds a B.S. in sociology and criminology and an M.S. in nonprofit administration from John Carroll University. That is the medical file: a former career development specialist at Goodwill, insurance portfolio builder, 3rd Ward alderman, and mayor of Rockford from May 2017 until August 2026. No M.D., no epidemiology, no immunology, no public-health degree, no clinic. The credential for declaring the unvaccinated the engine of mutation is a sociology degree and non-profit administration.
In April 2021 he received his second dose and posted that he had no side effects beyond a slightly sore arm, that case counts and positivity rates were climbing, and that one way to help stop the spread was to get vaccinated. He encouraged everyone to register so the city could return to the people and places they loved. On July 31, 2021, he co-signed an op-ed with the Winnebago County Board chairman and the public health administrator. It said the Delta variant had entered the community with less than 43 percent of county residents vaccinated, that the global pandemic was becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated, that the unvaccinated were allowing the virus to mutate and putting everyone - including the vaccinated - at risk, and that residents should get the shot and tell others to do the same. The platform was the mayor’s office and the Rockford Register Star. The training was politics.
McNamara took both doses, called the unvaccinated the reason the virus kept changing, and told the vaccinated they were still at risk because of the holdouts. The product did not stop infection or transmission. He left office in August 2026. The residents he told were endangering everyone by declining the shot did not get a correction when the needle he took and the letter he signed failed the one job they assigned it.
Tom said the unvaccinated were letting the virus mutate. Then the vaccinated kept catching it, and the letter stayed.

“We have a responsibility to protect our employees, the residents who depend on them and lead by example.”
Janice Hahn is a Los Angeles County Supervisor for the 4th District (since 2016), she is formerly a U.S. Representative and Los Angeles City Council member. She holds a BS in education from Abilene Christian University - credentials from teaching, local and federal politics, and family political legacy that include exactly zero medical, scientific, epidemiological, or public health qualifications. Her base salary as supervisor is approximately $244,000, with total compensation higher.
With Sheila Kuehl she introduced the August 2021 motion requiring all roughly 100,000 county employees to show proof of vaccination or submit to weekly testing (with full vaccination for healthcare workers), framing it as common sense to protect the public and raise rates amid Delta. She separately moved for the county to explore proof-of-vaccination requirements for certain indoor public spaces, citing nearly 4 million still unvaccinated and the need to prevent surges, and later expanded the employee mandate to cover contractors working with the public or on county property. She backed the board’s efforts to strip the sheriff of sole disciplinary authority so non-compliant deputies could be forced into compliance, and she continued pushing boosters in person while stating that vaccines work but immunity wanes.
A former education-degree politician with no medical training who told the county it had a responsibility to lead by example, pushed vax-or-test and indoor proof schemes, then tested positive for COVID-19 in August 2022 while fully vaccinated and boosted - reporting she felt “pretty lousy” with a terrible cough. The same supervisor who declared everyone eligible has the responsibility to get vaccinated remains in office for her final term, still carrying the identical lack of relevant medical credentials she used to set the workplace and public-space rules.
The longtime supervisor who said the county must lead by example took the shot that didn’t stop transmission and decided its 100,000 employees and indoor venues needed proof it didn’t work as well.

“While it may be tempting to provide more flexibility for people not to be vaccinated and be tested instead, this would just delay the inevitable. The financial and logistical cost - as well as the human lives that could be lost - (of) allowing people to opt out of vaccines and get tested instead would be immense.”
Holly Mitchell is a Los Angeles County Supervisor for the 2nd District (since 2020), she is a former California State Senator and Assemblymember, holds a BA from the University of California, Riverside - credentials from legislative work, policy advocacy, and nonprofit leadership (including as CEO of Crystal Stairs) that include exactly zero medical, scientific, epidemiological, or public health qualifications. Her base salary as supervisor is approximately $244,000, with total compensation higher.
She offered full support for the Board’s ratification of the county employee vaccine mandate covering more than 100,000 workers, warning that a testing alternative would merely “delay the inevitable” and cost lives, and declared that the board was “challenged to follow the science.” She co-introduced the 2022 motion (with Sheila Kuehl) that shifted disciplinary authority to the county personnel director so non-compliant employees - including those in the sheriff’s department, where rates lagged below 60 percent - could be disciplined or terminated. She also hosted equity-focused vaccination clinics and press events in South Los Angeles, partnered with community groups for hard-to-reach sites, and repeatedly used her platform and media briefings to push first doses, boosters, and uptake while dismissing historical medical distrust as inapplicable to the COVID shots.
A career politician with no medical training who lectured county workers that testing would cost human lives, insisted the board was simply following the science, then backed a rule change aimed at firing the unvaccinated in departments that refused full compliance. The same supervisor who noted her own district’s poorer vaccination rates and pushed “disproportionate investment” in South LA clinics remains in office, still carrying the identical lack of relevant medical credentials she used to decide the testing option was delay and the mandate was inevitable.
The former state senator who said opting for tests would cost lives never earned a medical degree to decide the county’s workforce had no more time for flexibility.

“Our employees interact with the public and provide vital services to residents. The City of Syracuse has an obligation to protect the health and well-being of all of our employees and the people that we serve. The data is clear that the best way to do that against the continued threat of Covid-19 is to be vaccinated.”
Ben Walsh, the former Mayor of Syracuse (2018–2025), holds a BA in Political Science from Ithaca College and an MPA from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School - credentials from public administration, economic development, and local government that include exactly zero medical, scientific, epidemiological, or public health qualifications. As mayor his salary was roughly $150,000; he is now Director of the New York State Canal Corporation.
He publicly received the Pfizer vaccine in March 2021, then imposed a vaccine-or-weekly-test mandate on all roughly 2,400 city employees effective September 2021 (new hires required to be vaccinated with no test option), applied it to police, firefighters, and other public-facing staff, and celebrated when compliance hit 97 percent while continuing to urge the remaining unvaccinated and the broader public that “there’s really no more excuses.”
Walsh said police hesitancy could not “get in the way of protecting everyone’s health and safety,” called on other employers to adopt similar rules, and later considered eliminating the testing alternative after full FDA approval. When he himself tested positive in 2022 with mild symptoms, he used the isolation to remind everyone to stay up to date on their vaccine and booster.
A Maxwell School MPA with no medical training who treated city employment as leverage for a personal medical decision, got the shot on camera, then still caught the virus and immediately turned the breakthrough into another booster advertisement. The same mayor who declared the data clear and the excuses over left office in 2025 for a state appointment, still carrying the identical lack of relevant medical credentials he used to set the workplace rule.
The independent mayor who said there were no more excuses decided the city’s employees had to choose between the shot and the swab.

“If New Yorkers attend an entertainment or sporting event they must provide proof of a COVID-19 vaccine. But New York City grants special privileges to out-of-town anti-vaxxers like Joe Rogan and NBA star Bradley Beal. This loophole puts the health of New Yorkers at risk, so I’ve introduced the FAIR Vaccines Mandate Act to close it. Our message is simple: Get jabbed or get outta town.”
Brad Hoylman-Sigal is the former New York State Senator (now Manhattan Borough President) who holds a BA from West Virginia University, an MPhil in politics from Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship, and a JD from Harvard Law School - credentials from a career as a private-practice attorney and general counsel that include exactly zero medical, scientific, epidemiological, or public health qualifications.
In 2021 he publicly received shots (including participating in an NYU vaccine trial and later booster trial), then introduced legislation requiring COVID vaccination for all New York college students and for schoolchildren once fully approved, sponsored a bill to close the NYC vaccine-mandate loophole for out-of-town performers and athletes, and floated a 1% “anti-vax tax” on higher-income unvaccinated adults he labeled “free riders” who weren’t “taking the responsible approach.” He helped constituents schedule appointments, authorized pharmacists to administer the shots, and had previously led the push to eliminate religious exemptions for school vaccines.
A non-scientist with Ivy League credentials used the Senate to push mandates on students, performers, and the general public while modeling compliance himself and proposing to tax those who declined. The “get jabbed or get outta town” line and free-rider framing treated personal medical choice as a civic failure deserving exclusion or financial penalty - despite the absence of any relevant expertise. He left the Senate at the end of 2025 for the Borough Presidency, still carrying the same zero public-health qualifications he used to write the bills.
The Rhodes Scholar who said get jabbed or leave town never needed a medical degree to decide other people’s medical decisions.

“I personally took the Moderna… the more and more people get vaccinated the quicker it will recover as an economy and get back to an old sense of normalcy. … as mayor of the great city of Atlantic City ultimately I’m responsible for the health safety and welfare and we definitely need to promote getting it done.”
Marty Small Sr. is the Mayor of Atlantic City, New Jersey. He holds a BA in Communications from Stockton University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Cheyney University; he has no medical degree, no scientific training, and zero credentials in epidemiology, immunology, or public health. His platform is the executive authority of a city government that includes public-health messaging and local vaccination-site coordination.
In 2021 he stated that he had personally received the Moderna vaccine and publicly urged residents - particularly in minority communities - to get vaccinated, arguing that higher uptake would speed economic recovery and return to normalcy. He described the city as “leading the charge” on vaccinations, referenced local partnerships and walk-up sites, and framed the mayor’s responsibility as including the promotion of the shots for the health, safety, and welfare of residents. He also enforced earlier COVID restrictions such as a ban on short-term rentals.
A mayor with no clinical background treated vaccination as the decisive tool for both public health and the local economy, then continued in office after facing (and being acquitted of) multiple criminal charges over the years, including recent child-endangerment allegations. He remains mayor; the residents who absorbed workplace, school, or social pressure tied to that framing absorbed the practical consequences while he retained the office.
The Stockton graduate who once said the more people get vaccinated the quicker the economy recovers is still the mayor of Atlantic City - still without a medical clinic, still after multiple acquittals.
