I first saw Patrick Stewart as King Claudius in the BBC production of HAMLET with Derek Jacobi. Unlike most Claudius's he uniquely emphasized the "smiling, damned, villain."
His entire career in film, TV, and stage should be honored-a role model for young actors. RIP Patrick!

Patrick Stewart. Turned up so early and so unobtrusively to be a star in the reasonably priced car, we mistook him for a delivery driver and asked him to go round the back. Took his hat off and said, “But I’m the captain of the Enterprise”. Fucking nice guy.

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

GLENN A. BAKER
I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Glenn A Baker today.
Glenn was one of the very early supporters of Flowers and then through all of ICEHOUSE’s career - we had a lot of contact, a lot of chats and a lot of laughter when together over the years.
Glenn was someone who lived life on his own terms - his passion for music and for the industry made him a force for discovery of new artists and to advocate with business and government to improve conditions for creators.
He will be sadly missed by us and by the thousands of people his work inspired and helped over the years.
The thoughts and best wishes of all of us within and around ICEHOUSE are with his family.

TERRY DONOVAN, 90: Journeyman actor, a TV fixture on Division 4, Cop Shop, Neighbours, Sons and Daughters, Home and Away. In film: Breaker Morant; Man from Snowy River; the forgotten Winds of Jarrah; and, of course, The Money Movers. Great torture scene. Thank you, Sir Terence.

I hope forthcoming obits will highlight the vital role he played -back in the 70’s- lobbying governments for stricter quotas on local production. He and other performers literally marched down Bourke Street with a coffin to make a point about the death of local production!

I am so sorry to hear this. I loved his company and had a splendid lunch with him in Perth on my last tour. He was always kind and funny. He will be very much missed.

Of course he was a great actor. But he was an also a principled person who was a passionate environmentalist and a stand-up guy.
Did I also mention he was charming and funny? This is an example of his wry sense of humour.
Rest well, Sam Neill.
We are saddened to hear that actor Sam Neill has died, aged 78. With a memorable career spanning over five decades, Neill gained international attention in 1993 starring in both Jane Campion’s The Piano and Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park.
We honor the extraordinary legacy of Sam Neill, a #SagAftraMember since 1988. From his unforgettable role in 'Jurassic Park' to countless performances, he brought intelligence, warmth & strength to every role. His work will continue to inspire generations.
