“The solution to high health care costs, using that view, looks more like plumbing — fixing the leaky pipes raising health care costs — and less like highbrow architecture designing a new building from scratch.” nytimes.com/2026/11/03/opini…

“To me, he’s like a modern-day Columbo,” said David Paterson, a Democrat who served as New York governor during some of Jeffries’ tenure in Albany. “While you’re putting him down, he’s planning how to take you out.” politico.com/news/2026/11/02…

In a vacuum, an emergency election-related request from the federal government is the sort of thing that SCOTUS typically would take very seriously. A terse, 9-0 order denying such a request, without even getting the other side's response, is the court's way of sending a message.

One Black voter likened casting a ballot to taking out the trash — a vital but not joy-inducing responsibility. "He said something like, 'If you don’t do it, shit starts to stink around here.'" politico.com/news/magazine/2…

“The one independent poll of the race put Kean Jr. at a five-point disadvantage, but more telling is the fact that most Republican groups pulled out of the district weeks ago, making Kean Jr. one of the first incumbents to be triaged.” politico.com/news/2026/10/31…

Exclusive in @POLITICO: Maria Elvira Salazar has been a fixture, a celebrity of the 305. Suddenly she’s fighting for her political life. The sweeping ICE crackdown in Miami risks fracturing the GOP coalition of Latino support that’s transformed the city’s politics. Salazar privately warned James Blair and White House CoS Susie Wiles about the GOP losing Latinos on immigration, well before she so publicly broke with her party in a viral ad in front of the White House. With days to go, Salazar is the ultimate test of whether a Latina Republican can win in the era of mass deportation. A profile months in the making, reported from my hometown — this is one of the top House races to watch on Tuesday. politico.com/news/magazine/2…

I obtained the audio of yesterday's CBS all-staff editorial meeting where the Dan Sullivan/Dan Sullivan story was discussed. In contrast to the Fox story's characterization (shared below), I didn't detect any tension or hear staffers clashing or disagreeing with Bari Weiss. Sounded like a standard editorial discussion...
Fox is wrong. That is not what happened in the meeting at all. No one who spoke at the network meeting opposed covering the campaign or story but rather exchanged ideas on how to do it. All of the AK candidates also know they have an open invitation (repeatedly offered) to join Face the Nation. So does the NH GOP candidate who has also been repeatedly invited. I look forward to seeing my colleagues cover it too. I actually caught this on Fox: foxnews.com/video/6407549345… And WaPo: washingtonpost.com/politics/…
