🧑🎓@QuilibriumInc Academy Lesson 1
TL;DR: Quilibrium, founded by ex-Coinbase developer Cassie Heart, is layer 1 platform, similar to Bitcoin and Ethereum, but uses new (novel) technology. It provides a new base layer for the Internet, one that is private from the ground up (but compliant) and utilizes a design philosophy similar to @Apple --do more, with less. It is in the early stages of its mainnet, and teams are already building a lot of cool things on Q.
Long version:
Quilibrium is a decentralized platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that enables applications to operate in a permanent, uncensorable state, free from reliance on traditional service providers (i.e. AWS, Azure, GCP).
Q operates as an oblivious sharded hypergraph database, which is decentralized like $BTC and $ETH but that's where the similarities end. Q's approach focuses on parallelism and scalability, overcoming the bottlenecks of a linear blockchains, and is better suited for decentralized apps, #AI models, and multi-party interactions.
Censorship and data security are hot topics in this digital age. You don't have to scroll far on X to see a post from @elonmusk and many others talking about this. This is a common narrative in the crypto space, and Q founder @cass_on_mars went a step further to declare the Internet, as we know it, dead. Q has built a new base layer for the Internet, one that is private at its core.
"If privacy is a common narrative in crypto, what makes Q different from the others?"
Well, beyond its technical accomplishments (scalable to millions of transactions per second), Cassie Heart's "alternate thesis of consumer crypto" takes a very practical approach to integrating cryptocurrency with our lives. Using Quilibrium should be as transparent as using the Internet today, and that thesis is woven into the very fabric of this network.
Quilibrium's founder and lead developer, Cassie Heart, hails from @coinbase and @farcaster_xyz. She is often compared to Ethereum's @VitalikButerin in her abilities and dedication to the mission. While her Twitter presence is on the small side, she has over 370k followers on Farcaster and is very well connected in the space.
Although the network is still in the early stages of its mainnet, several teams have come forward announcing projects they are developing on Q, including @BlockchatDAO, a decentralized web3 social platform.

This isn't some crypto influencer. This is a founder of a $350B+ Valuation AI company.
WHAT DID HE SAY?
Jack analyzed Epoch AI's research on decentralized training and here are the numbers:
Decentralized training growth: 20X per year
Centralized (frontier) growth: 5X per year
Read that again. Decentralized is growing 4X FASTER than OpenAI/Anthropic/Google.
Current:
- Decentralized runs are 1000X smaller than frontier models
- But growing 4X faster per year means...
Math check:
At current rates, decentralized training reaches frontier-competitive scale in few years
@covenant_ai (Bittensor subnet operator) @tplr_ai highlighted as the key innovations:
DiLoCo:
500x bandwidth reduction
+ Quantization 10× (fewer bits per message)
+ Sparsification 10× (Send most important ignore rest)
That’s not 520×.
= improvements compound MULTIPLICATIVELY

Epoch AI's conclusion: Bandwidth won't limit the scale of decentralized training anytime soon.

Here's what most people are missing:

WHY THIS MATTER?
Anthropic is a frontier lab building centralized AI. Their co-founder is publicly acknowledging that:
1. Decentralized training is real and working
2. The gap to frontier is closing at 4X per year
3. Technical barriers (bandwidth) are being solved
4. Specific Bittensor infrastructure (Templar) is leading this
He's citing the competition as credible.
THE MARKET IS ASLEEP
OpenAI valuation: $500B
Anthropic valuation: $350B+
Google DeepMind: Hundreds of billions in parent company value
Bittensor market cap: $2.8B
Thats valued at 1% of Anthropic.
Make it make sense.
MATH IS SIMPLE
If decentralized training:
- Grows 20X annually (vs 5X centralized)
- Has solved bandwidth constraints
- Already has 600,000X scale increase since 2020
- Is being validated by Anthropic's co-founder
Then, $TAO at ,268 is pricing in ZERO probability this thesis plays out.
NO COVERAGE WTFN?
Here's my theory:
1. Crypto stigma media sees $TAO and ignores the AI breakthrough
2. Complexity decentralized training requires understanding both AI and crypto
3. Vested interests centralized AI labs have $100B+ invested in their approach
4. Timing most don't realize how fast this is moving
But the math doesn't care about narratives.
WHAT JACK DIDN'T SAY (BUT IMPLIED)

Translation: Bittensor democratizes access to frontier AI development.

Jack Clark built Anthropic to compete with OpenAI in centralized AI.
This should be front-page news.
I've been saying decentralized AI will get the credit it deserves.

We agree. But today's privacy tech is heavy and kills the throughput. We need the equivalent of physical cash - private because it is truly p2p not because of FHE/ZK/MPC.
Still here, still running @QuilibriumInc nodes. Every release gets us one step closer to the vision, though admittedly it is taking far longer than I could have expected. That's greenfield in crypto I guess. Stacking other novel projects early where I can. Stay safe out there.

The freeze has thawed. Quilibrium V2.1 is now live on mainnet!
Builds are now released to general availability.
The network has unhalted and we’ve entered a 24-hour initial enrollment phase. This is a pivotal moment, as the first set of nodes joining will define how shards are distributed across the protocol. It marks the beginning of live operations. If any critical issues arise, we have a path to pause and return to a safe state.
After 24 hours, the network becomes fully decentralized. The beacon shuts down permanently, shards are finalized, and transactions in the new format begin processing. From this point forward, the system is operating fully in the 2.1 environment.
Once stable operations are confirmed, which may take between 24 hours and a week depending on conditions, we will activate the bidirectional bridge, bring QStorage and QKMS onto mainnet, open QConsole for everyone, and migrate existing user data into the upgraded environment.
