A heartbreaking plea for leniency
Despite grief of losing their four-year-old boy, this migrant couple in Canberra ask an Australian court to consider granting 81-yr-old driver "lightest possible sentence" so she could spend remaining years with family.

The announcement of new contracts should not distract from the failure to audit the ACT's traffic camera infringement system, so please sign the petition I'm sponsoring from petitioner John Mikita - the link to the petition is in the article.

Volunteers from the ACT State Emergency Service have been busy today, helping people around the Canberra community who have been affected by the storms.
So far more than 40 requests for assistance have been received, as a result of the heavy rainfall and damaging winds. Our volunteers have completed 35 of the jobs.
The calls for help have come from every part of Canberra, with most incidents involving trees or branches being blown down, and also some power outages, some of which are still ongoing.
While this severe weather is still active, please remember to:
⚠️ Take it easy on the roads and drive to the conditions;
⛈️ Keep away from stormwater drains and catchments;
🚗 Move your car under cover and away from trees;
🔒 Secure or put away loose items;
🚧 Never drive, walk or ride through floodwater.
If you need support during a storm or flood, call the ACT State Emergency Service on 132 500.

Keralam will not be a playground for communal hatred.
I had called for action against the vlogger spreading falsehoods and communal suspicion about Varkala and Fort Kochi. The registration of an FIR against him by Fort Kochi Police is a necessary step.
Our temples, mosques, churches, art and diverse communities are part of our shared heritage. No campaign of hate can erase that.
Freedom of expression is not a licence to incite communal enmity.
Keralam stands united. Hate will not divide us.

What do you do if you find two consenting individuals engaging in intimate relations inside a place of worship?
You ask them to leave, you fine them, you ask them not to return, and so on.
Killing them is Barbaric.
So is justifying the killing.

A Catholic Mass in Ecuador turns deadly in seconds when a large wooden crucifix falls from behind the altar, striking a priest as he prepares Communion.
Worshippers scream and rush toward Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari inside a church in Guayaquil, with one woman desperately calling for an ambulance.
The Archdiocese of Guayaquil has since confirmed the priest's death, but what caused the crucifix to collapse remains unclear. The tragedy comes just one day after the church celebrated the anniversary of his ordination.
