Everyone kept saying PHP was dead. Ironically, it's just been waiting for the perfect moment to kill us all.

Falcon on the Atari ST was a flight simulator that took its subject seriously. Released by Spectrum HoloByte in 1987, it put you in the cockpit of an F-16, with radar, realistic weapons systems and demanding missions.
Please, feel free to encourage *your* kids to spend their attention, energy, and time on these skills.
I made this by the way...
My 12 year old son just made this @Tesla Roadster game from scratch by himself using AI.
AI is nuts.
Computer Science must start with C.
Any other letter would be confusing, really.
I've always taken issue with the idea that computer science degrees MUST start with C
I think they must INCLUDE C, but I see no reason to start there. MOST students have a much easier time starting with a higher level language to learn coding basics and get their feet wet building some simple programs and THEN learning C afterwards.
When I organize Boot .dev curriculum, it's all about dependencies: I don't want to teach modulo before division, and so on (to use a math analogy)
Understanding manual memory management and CPU architecture simply aren't prerequisites for variables, functions and loops - they obviously use that stuff under the hood, but students have an easier time moving from the programmer experience, down into the implementation, rather than the other way around.
also: I'm simply not interested in "weeding people out" - I understand that colleges actually want to do that, but outside of the strange ecosystem of student-hostile incentives they've created, there's no need for that nonsense. The best educational experience is the one the most people can get the furthest into.
What a fun day! 💛

Beautifully written.
I was encouraged by this essay to put together some of my own thoughts here:

I have been taking Pikuma's raycasting course. This is what I have done so far. I'm thinking about my next steps. Either I make a Wolfenstein 3D clone or Wizardry-style RPG.

Why does so much new music sound the same? Why does a song feel almost worthless when you can stream every album ever recorded for the price of one CD?
And... is software next?
It’s an #Elefant! 🐘
The same DRAM IC contains the already known animal standing for its “good memory”. This was already found on other ZMD U2164 versions.
It’s a #fox! 🦊
This chip is the GDR version / clone of the western 4164 being a 64 kbit DRAM. It was produced by ZMD in Dresden, Germany. Next to some test pads at the die rim, I found the silhouette of a fox head.

Well, it did not die because it's easy. It's still difficult but that's not being done by humans. It's the 'community' & the puzzle aspect of it that died.
"It is now clear that AI can expedite the decompilation process in a significant way. What is also now clear is that the community aspect of decompilation has been broken."

Was feeling burnt out from 3D lately, so I started my life-long dream of learning how to make games on Famicom.
No AI involved, going through Pikuma's course, reading books, nesdev wiki, forums etc. ☺️
Started by learning 6502 asm first, but got filtered and went to C.
