A historic stride towards a poverty-free India!
49.6 crore Indians crossed the poverty line between 2011 and 2023, marking one of the world’s fastest declines. Extreme poverty plunged from 27.1% to just 2.6%, driven by rising employment, greater consumption and social support.
The World Bank’s October 2026 Poverty & Equity Brief records India’s progress as one of the fastest poverty declines in the world.
The report highlights several significant gains:
✅ 49.6 crore people moved above the lower-middle-income poverty line of $4.20 a day between 2011 and 2023, with the poverty rate declining from 57.7% to 16.1%.
✅ Extreme poverty declined from 27.1% to 2.6% over the same period, measured at $3 a day. Both monetary poverty thresholds use 2021 purchasing power parity.
✅ Employment increased by 13.4 crore people between 2017 and 2023, nearly twice the increase in the working-age population.
✅ Rural women accounted for much of the employment gain, entering paid work and increasing the number of earners in their households.
✅ Both rural and urban households experienced substantial welfare gains, with faster progress in rural India narrowing the rural–urban gap.
✅ Access to electricity reached 99% of the population, according to the report’s 2022 survey data.
The World Bank identifies strong consumption growth, rising employment - especially among women—and expanded social transfers, including food subsidies, as major drivers.
Under the leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi, the Government’s sustained policy efforts are yielding tangible results, strengthening the foundations for inclusive growth and greater economic opportunity. This is the reason why NDA govt wins people’s trust and mandate of our citizens.
We remain committed to building on this progress through productive employment, stronger household incomes and effective delivery of public services, so that aspirations of our people are met.

A Declining Gini Index: Why It Matters for India.
India's Gini Index score of 23, based on recent World Bank data, shows a remarkably equal distribution of income, ranking ahead of major economies like the USA, UK, China, France, and Italy in terms of income equality because a lower score means wealth is shared more evenly across the population.

Hear what JRD Tata says about Nehru
google.com/url?sa=t&source=w…
That Rahul doesn't know anything he proves often by taking about things about which he needn't talk.
He doesn't know that JRD Tata was clear that if instead of Nehru, Patel had become become prime minister the economy of India would have been very different.
He also said Nehru knew very little of economics.
If Rahul had known this is what JRD Tata spoke of his great grandfather would he have poker into Tata matter
Good.
Madras High Court Orders Removal Of Anti-Hindu EVR's Statue From Temple Land In Thanjavur

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has been delivering some landmark judgments of late.
In a significant ruling, the Court has held that the authority to select a Jeeyar rests with the temple’s “Sthalathars” and not with the HR&CE Department. If the Sthalathars fail to make the selection, the Court may intervene.
This was in fact the traditional practice. The judgment reinforces the importance of preserving the traditional religious autonomy of Hindu temples.
Thevar Ayya is a great nationalist son from Tamil Nadu and a role model for Tamilians.
Today marks the birth anniversary of Pasumpon Thevar Ayya. A great nationalist, Thevar was fiercely critical of separatist forces. He regarded nationalism and spirituality as his two eyes.
Here is an excerpt from a speech delivered by the great leader at Kanchipuram in 1951.
“A group is contesting elections proclaiming, ‘We must have pride in Tamil, and Tamil Nadu must prosper.’ Certainly, pride in Tamil is necessary. But look at the manner in which these people demonstrate their love for Tamil.
Whenever they conduct public meetings, their primary. objective seems to be dividing people into ‘North Indians’ and ‘South Indians’, and the country into ‘North India’ and ‘South India’.
When they hold a meeting at Jinnah Park, they announce it as Jinnah Park. When another meeting takes place at Robinson Park, they readily call it Robinson Park. But when a meeting is held at Tilakar Grounds, they become angry at the very mention of his name. They refuse to use his name, calling him a North Indian, and instead announce that the meeting will take place at ‘Thanthai Thidal’ (Father's Grounds).
In what way is Jinnah not a North Indian? Why are the names Jinnah and Robinson so sweet to you, sir? Why is the name of Tilak so bitter to you, sir? I am unable to understand.
What does this reveal, other than the mentality inherited from the Justice Party, a group that served as the lackeys of the British?
Beyond this, they raise the slogan of ‘Dravida Nadu’.
From whom are you demanding Dravida Nadu? Had you conducted yourselves properly and stood alongside the people during the freedom struggle, when the British held us in bondage, one could at least say that you had some right to make such a demand.
But when the struggle against British rule was taking place, you accepted payments from the British government and carried out wartime propaganda in its favour. After doing all that, what does it mean to demand Dravida Nadu now?
Just as Pakistan was demanded and obtained through a secret agreement, you would establish a fifth column for the British. We are not fools to be deceived in such a manner.”
