Just read through @itsDuulan’s article on Topdeck discussing the mental game of Riftbound. So incredibly well written, I’ll link below and heavily recommend you read it. He is an incredible writer and really brings to life his inner thoughts. A bit of commentary: Dylan talks about starting his RQ Vancouver run at 8-0 and then failing to convert to a desired finish due to his own mental game being insufficient and thus, feeling like a fraud. When doing anything competitive in any space is it important to understand where you are mentally, as someone who has suffered from crippling anxiety my whole life I relate to Dylan here. It’s very easy to trip up right at the finish line after hours and hours of prep and practice, it’s very easy to fail. In a lot of ways I believe the brain feels more comfortable in failure, if you don’t succeed nothing changes. That is wrong. The reality is you have everything to gain. When you’re expected to lose and then succeed, you challenge everything that is known about the current status quo. You only seek to gain, especially when you have nothing to lose in the first place. Going into RC season and our second year of competitive Riftbound, know that you humble reader have everything to gain. You have any amount of ability to accomplish any goal. Every hurdle you face is mental. Hell, until set 3 I didn’t even win a single game at either of the RQs I played. You are deserving of success, you are deserving of good things. Confidence is something you can’t fake, if you believe in yourself to the utmost delusion I promise you will see improvement in your play.
