Fragmenting care costs more+ lower quality care. meantime qualified GPs can't get jobs in practices (complex but increased costs of running practices, underfunding /instability). far better to invest in stable core NHS GP (and read evidence on walk in services!)
NEW: John Swinney announces a network of 15 walk-in GP services to deliver 1m extra appointments Open 7 days a week, open 12 to 8. No appointment needed "They will break from the status quo," he tells SNP conference BUT, only ONE open by the end of the year, + Qs about cash

So I hope Keir Starmer now proposes a bill to ban all MPs from accepting any gifts or personal donations, and we will see whether his critics support it

Likewise if you start talking about AI solutions, fancy pants virtual technology, or building new hospitals I will immediately switch off...
I am not interested in any manifesto plan for the NHS that does not set out how they are properly going to move resource into primary care and public health and actually address widening health inequalities. Two decades of covering reports concluding we should do this and yet...

This is such great news and so well deserved. Gene is a brilliant scientist doing work on such an important topic, and a fantastic colleague
Wonderful to see my @capcbristol and @NIHRSPCR colleague, Gene Feder, recognised in this way. Very well deserved. His work on #domestic #violence and #abuse has changed practice, policy and the lives of so many.

“58% want a single point of contact about their care” this is a reasonable ask I believe. This used to be the GP practice. But now with lots of small practices having closed & so many points of access eg 111, extended hours, same day urgent care- we are further away than ever

Our briefing is here: healthwatch.co.uk/blog/2024-… Other friends across the sector will be doing their own work on the NHS Constitution. Look forward to comparing notes with others! @NVTweeting @jacoblant @PatientsAssoc @rory_deighton @danwellings @jessiecunnett

Fragmentation of GP services by partitioning acute and long term care will lead to less holistic care for patients and reduce continuity of care. This will be particularly detrimental to patients with multimorbidity and long-term conditions. @bmj_latest bmj.com/content/385/bmj.q108…

To explain the context: I’ve spent my research career studying interventions intended to enable better general practice. But what should be the most important outcome measure? (I can list lots of things that currently get measured but don’t hit the spot)
Replying to @prof_tweet
Absolutely, perhaps like ikigai but with different categories, looking for that sweet spot that changes with all the variables

And a related question I’ve considered for years: how to measure a good outcome for patients from a GP consultation?
How, if at all should we measure the success or failure of General Practice ?
