LIVE | Intercity Big Push Initiative: Why don’t we allow people to construct roads in their own neighbourhoods instead of waiting for the government to do everything? – Local Government Minister, Mahama Ayariga.
Ah well.
When the citizens wake up, that day will be a day of revolution.
1. The state pays police officers.
2. Police officers incur huge expenses for the state to operate.
3. The state bears the primary responsibility for enforcing criminal laws.
Yet the state willingly gives a third party 40% of the total fines it receives, even though it bears the major costs of road construction, road traffic enforcement, maintaining a police force, and running a court system to handle cases where fines are challenged.
Why not pay for the software and set up the human resource base to run it?
But if it is done that way, how else can the politician's financier milk the state?
Somehow, citizens are defending this.
I genuinely didn't see this coming! 😳
As someone who advocates for technology and public policies that improve lives, this Traffitech-GH revelation has changed how I look at the initiative.
Ghana's Ministry of Finance reports that 40% of traffic fine revenue is earmarked for a private company, Nationwide Traffic Management and Enforcement Ltd (NTMEL), while the government receives 60%.
And who owns NTMEL?
• Frank Osei, Ghanaian entrepreneur: 60%
• Sensys Gatso, Swedish traffic technology company: 40%. The contract runs for 11 years, from December 2022 to December 2033, with an estimated project investment of GH¢77.73 million.
I've always supported technology that makes our roads safer. But this raises serious questions for me.
If a private operator earns more when motorists commit more offences, how do we ensure road safety remains the priority, not revenue generation?
What happens to poorly marked roads, missing speed-limit signs and unclear school zones?
I'm not against Traffitech. I'm questioning the incentives behind its implementation.
Are we building a safer road network or a revenue-generating enforcement system?
Ghanaians deserve transparency on this arrangement.

Real United haters know that's a good result for us. Takes a bit of pressure off Carrick and keeps him in the job longer. One small sacrifice for the greater good😂
Lol. I recognise this tweet so much
I won't lie, our wingers won't even hit up to 10 goals this season with this Maresca system.
Because they have to beat 1, 2 men before they even get space to shoot. That's how Maresca's style is.
No direct runs.
No freedom in the final third.
They have to stay touchline.
Everything is slow, sideways, and predictable.
