United chose to sign Højlund over Harry Kane becaue Højlund was better value for money as he was young and could play for United for a decade or even longer.

🔥WATCH THIS: Kaveh Solhekol absolutely TORCHED Jim Ratcliffe on @SkySportsNews! He’s to blame. Full stop. Solhekol didn’t hedge or soft-soap it. He laid out exactly how Ratcliffe’s arrival, buying only 29%, bailing out the Glazers, and seizing control of football operations, has wrecked the club. He was ruthless in his assessment: “I’m going to tell you who’s to blame for this situation at the moment. The person to blame is Jim Ratcliffe. He bought the club almost three years ago. He bought 29% of it, when the Glazer family put the club up for sale. He didn’t buy the whole club, he only bought 29% of it. And by buying 29%, it meant that the Glazers stayed in place and Jim Ratcliffe got to run the football operations.” That’s the original sin. He didn’t clean house. He just propped up the Glazers. Then the arrogance of the man who thought he knew better: “He’s come in and he said, ‘I know better than anyone else how to run this club. We’re going to do things my way’. And look what it’s turned out to be over the past two and a half years.” The managerial mess followed immediately: “First of all, he said, ‘I’m going to back Erik ten Hag. We’ve been chopping and changing managers too much’. Then he went off and started meeting Thomas Tuchel and any other manager who was available behind Erik ten Hag’s back.” “When they couldn’t find somebody else, they gave Ten Hag a new contract and money to spend. A couple of games later, Ten Hag loses his job.” “In the middle of the season, they beg Ruben Amorim to come to United. He doesn’t even want to go there in the middle of the season, he wants to wait until the summer. They pay a fortune to get him, even though he plays three at the back, a totally different kind of football.” “Dan Ashworth doesn’t want him. Dan Ashworth leaves, Ruben Amorim comes in, they go all in on Ruben Amorim. That doesn’t work out. They get rid of him.” “They bring in Carrick as an interim. Okay, results are better. Then they give him the full-time job.” And then the transfer policy that locked the club into mediocrity: “In the meantime, Ratcliffe has come in and said, ‘We’re going to do things my way. No player is going to get paid 250, 300 grand a week here anymore. That’s not going to happen. We’re not going to sign any players for more than 60, 70 million pounds’.” “‘So Mateus Fernandes, Elliot Anderson, Harry Kane, Declan Rice, all these players, we ain’t going to be signing them. And also, we’re only going to be signing players with Premier League experience. And we’re going to sign forwards one window, then the following summer we’re just going to sign midfielders, then next summer we’re just going to sign defenders’.” “So this is Jim Ratcliffe’s way of doing things. So he is to blame for this situation.” He’s right. Ratcliffe rode in as the saviour and has made things measurably worse. It was a mistake from the start and I said so at the time. It was NEVER going to work. The only people who benefited were the Glazers. I’m still surprised so many fans backed this and thought it could succeed. Kaveh just laid bare how damaging Ratcliffe has been for Manchester United. And unfortunately, there’s no end in sight.

I still believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would've won a League title with Man United if he wasn't managing the team with one hand tied behind his back.

United decided to pass on this guy in favour of Højlund because it was more cost effective 🫠

Haaland. Kane. Bellingham. Rice. All in the top 15 of the Ballon d'Or. All wanted by Ole at Utd. But the hierarchy above didn't listen, didn't care & didn't want to back him. Proof they should have & that Ole deserves another chance. Until the hierarchy changes, nothing will.

It should seriously frighten United fans that Wilcox and Berrada will now choose Manchester United’s new manager. After Ten Hag, Amorim and now Carrick, they are serial failures, out of their depth and clueless about what is needed.

THIS is the most accurate tweet about the current Utd situation you could possibly see.
Not backing Ole did this to Manchester United. They were already in an inevitable fall which could have been turned around with Ole. The media and fancams ran the worst campaign to drive him out and bury Manchester United deeper than ever.

Since 2005 Premier League clubs have had a total interest cost on borrowings and financial debt of £3.5bn. One club and one set of owners is responsible for 35% of the total. #Glazernomics Figures per @valuball

Silly game to play by Bruno. Martinez you can support because he was going for those at the top, who are culpable. But no excuse for coming for the manager like that. Still sympathise with Bruno generally though. Given so much of his career to this club to be let down repeatedly.

All the chaos at United starts and ends with the ownership. We all know this. Everything in between - the standards dropping, the football falling apart, the culture eroding - has just been the inevitable fallout. Until that changes, nothing will.

It doesn’t matter who is linked with becoming Manchester United manager, because whatever the name (and most of those in circulation have previously already been ruled out), they are set up to fail. The parasitic Glazer ownership has bled and broken the club, putting a financial noose around it. In 2024, Sir Jim Ratcliffe talked a big game about a “three-year plan” to rival and outdo Manchester City and Liverpool. But the decision-making under INEOS’ charge of football operations has not just been woeful, but costly too. There is zero accountability for expensive mistake after expensive mistake. There is still no clear direction on club identity, including style of play, which leads to profiling the right signings and manager. That was a major promise made by Ratcliffe, which hasn’t been kept. To borrow his own words: “There have been a whole series of coaches, some of which were very good. And none of them were successful, or survived for very long. The only conclusion you can draw is that the environment in which they were working didn’t work.” It still doesn’t. It never will as long as the people who own and run the club betray Manchester United and what is required to be successful in the modern era. You can harp on about structure, vision, and sell fanciful projects, but you will never have the right operation with the wrong people.

We sold Wan Bissaka for Mazrouai because we needed more offensive output from our fullback positions. Since then Wan Bissaka has more premier league goals and assists than both Mazrouai and Dalot combined. Won’t even speak on the defending ..

Why would you keep a Sporting Director that has hired and fired managers every season with no sign of progress and only regression? It does not make any sense.

If Carrick pays for this with his job and not Wilcox then it’s a disgrace. Carrick got Utd in to the Champions League, Wilcox made sure we got knocked out of it.

INEOS record at Man United: actively try to replace Ten Hag. Give Ten Hag new contract. Sack Ten Hag. Appoint Amorim. Worst league finish in over 50 years. Sack Amorim. Appoint the interim. Set to sack the interim. The positions of those decision-makers should now be untenable.

At Manchester United, Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada & Matt Hargreaves have overseen a failed rebuild strategy, Erik ten Hag's 'extension' & sacking, Ruben Amorim's hiring & firing, Michael Carrick's hiring & (?) firing. In what world can any of them justifiably keep their job?

If you are watching tonight’s game in isolation, you’d quickly come to the conclusion that #MUFC are a badly coached side. Poor in possession, disjointed without the ball and reliant on individual moments rather than creating anything meaningful. There’s little cohesion, no clear pattern of play and very little to suggest a team with a defined identity.
